Yes, I know I forgot to record something for week 5 – so this is a two week catch up.
First of all – please please donate Christina’s Fundraising Page I’ve currently got $885 which leaves me a tad over $2100 yet to raise. We are doing some team fundraising but I would feel so much more encouraged if I could pull my own weight from all of you lovely readers/friends/supporters. It is your donations that keep me going even when I feel a huge huge case of the “Don’t Wannas”
Speaking of those – literally about an hour after I recorded this video in which I sort of crow about feeling pretty darn good after a 12 mile training walk…guess what happened? Yup – BONK! I was part way through my grocery shopping and my brain just stopped. Followed closely by the rest of me. I pushed through to unloading the food and then making a super quick lunch thinking that what I needed was food. Meh – kind of felt better? But, I still needed to do a 3 mile walk (remember this is going to be a back to back 25 miles each day event so we have to train like that). I wisely decided to just stroll the 3 miles. Ok, check that – I almost only did 1 mile since I had to go to the ATM to deposit a cash donation a friend had given me Saturday night (thank you Jeanne!). I nearly went home after BUT I plugged along down to the trail anyway. Not sure if that was the best plan since about at mile 2 a headache dropped down onto me and the last bit I felt as if I was constantly bargaining with myself between calling for a rescue ride home or taking another step forward. I did finish it, but I spent the rest of the day on the sofa or in bed. THANKFULLY feeling much back to normal-ish today (Monday) and very very happy to see TWO rest days on the plan for this week – the first one being today.
Anyhow – enjoy this unfocused little missive on stuff and know that the universe said “Ha HAH” out loud about an hour later 😉
It’s the end of Phase 1! A base has been built 🙂 I must say I am very happy with the training plan provided because I have really not felt terribly sore or tired yet. The mileage increase has been very gradual and the emphasis on cross training and strength have been perfect. This week, while there are no new donations (waaah)…I did get the proper sized backpack AND then I saw the very animal for which the pack was named. THAT was a real treat 🙂
On to Phase 2! the mileage ramps up now. I will be inspired to keep moving by some Phase 2 level donations? Pretty please?
There were FOUR new donors this week – THANK YOU!
Donate here and you too will get a shout out! Christina’s P3 Page
Shout outs in the first video and then come along with me as we tour my house and get dizzy inside to avoid what ended up being 50-60mph wind gusts Sunday in San Diego. It sounded like waves were crashing into my house all day yesterday!
First and most important – a new location for my fundraising page:
Christina’s Fundraising Page for P3 Team
Project Athena changed who they use for fundraising – I like the look of this new page much more. Ok, so there’s a short entry from my walk today and then a longer session with an overall assessment of the training week and a preview of what we are doing starting tomorrow. I hope you feel inspired to donate!
Hello friends! So, sometime in the past year of growth and stuff I have managed to:
- Upgrade my computer and phone so that video recording quality is pretty darn good
- No longer be freaked out at the sight of myself ON video.
What that means for you is: Hey look – videos!
I got the idea to document my Project Athena training process and then the actual walk itself. Does that mean that I am considering getting a selfie stick? Perhaps….. 🙂
In the meantime – here are videos #1 and two. The best way to comment is to donate 🙂 Actually, I am considering some sort of challenge/reward for donations. Like, if you donate and then ask me to sing, or dance, or something (g-rated please) I will commit to that on the next video installment. For sure I will read your name off and probably mention how I know you like I do in this first one:
Installment #2 was recorded on Sunday after my training walk and involves a little bit of whining about being (cough) older than I may have been the last time I did one of these events. There’s also some musings on life just because.

Project Athena Harbor to Harbor
Gentle readers, I would love your help!
In the grand semi/sporadic tradition that I started back in 2002 when I walked in my first of three Breast Cancer 3-day events, I am back on the walking trail again in 2016.
(No, I will not and have not stopped running, but I did take a much needed rest from the longer runs after my 3rd 1/2 marathon in a 5 months time span earlier this year!)
First, here’s the fundraising page – I plan to raise $3,000 to participate as a Supportive Goddess in this event. It is *only* 50 miles over 2 days (hahahahaha…yeah…”only”…) and the route sounds just breathtaking Oceanside Harbor to San Diego Harbor so if you know that coastal trail, you know it is pretty stunning! The Athena who I am supporting is my friend Angela who has courageously bounced back from several back surgeries after being thrown from a horse a few years ago. She is a shining example of someone who is moving forward from surviving to thriving and I am honored to be able to walk with her 🙂
