Health check in


Sorry in advance to my readers for this very mundane, health oriented post, but I need this one for my own records.

I looked back at the first month of posts that I made here and realized that did not keep up with my health markers during the year as I had wanted. Crap! I have a notion that the nagging items were less this year, but they certainly did not go away totally. I had my appointment this morning with my new GP and I liked her – yay! As luck would have it, I had one of my 72 hour headaches this weekend so she and I discussed those at length. I think I’ve had about 4 of those this year. The kind where nothing works to get rid of it. It sits at the right side bottom of my head/top of my neck and prevents proper sleep and makes me cranky as hell. An annoying pain more than anything. Maybe reaches a pain value of 5 or 6 at its worst, but mostly hovers at a 3. Anyway, she thinks it is muscular. After listening to my long winded description she touched the spot and asked “is this it?” Oh yeah. She said it is the starting point for a major muscle group on each side. Most likely I did strain that muscle at some point and now it is prone to tightening up. Kind of like that IT band on my knee that knocked me out of the 3-day. She also said that it would probably need higher doses of motrin to respond. Ick. She gave me a sheet with some neck stretches she wants me to do everyday to see if that reduces the number of times it hurts. Also gave me some Imitrex to try out just in CASE it is not muscular. That way we can eliminate vascular as a possible culprit. Long term she may want to send me to a headache specialist since I’ve had issues with them in some form my whole life. So, nearly one year later here is my reminder to myself again to post something whenever I have either a sinus headache or neck pain. I want to see just how frequent these really are.
