Above is the Pablo Picasso painting Crazy Woman with Cats. It is displayed in the Art Institute of Chicago. A place that everyone must visit when they go to that city! I will be going again in August for YearlyKos ’07 and I cannot wait! However, that is not why I chose this painting for today. Today, I saw many many crazy cat ladies. Now, that is slightly different from the title of this painting, yet somehow evoked this image in my mind! DS2 and I went to a cat show at the loca fairgrounds in search of adoptable kittens. All of the rescue houses were there, but none with kittens other than a couple of long haired black ones. Since we were there though, and had paid the admission fee, we toured all the aisles of specialty breeds. And I swear that on each aisle there was at least five middle-aged crazy cat ladies. You know what I am talking about, right? Over 50, hippy-ish looking with naturally graying long-ish hair, no makeup, wearing jeans and a cat related sweatshirt, no jewelry, reading glasses propped on the tips of their noses? As they talk to you they are absent mindedly petting one of their cats on their laps. Their eyes dart about sort of like a kittens would? Anyway, it was pretty funny – I hate to add to stereotypes but sometimes you just cannot help it! So, no kittens there we moved on to a nearby PetSmart where I knew they did have kittens per their website. They are also fostered, rescue kitties. The lady running the station was another classic cat lady! We chatted for awhile as I filled out an adoption application. There was one little black kitten available, but they really want to place him with someone who already has a cat – this guy needed someone to play with right away for sure! As long as the organization approves my application though, I can get any cat I want from them in the future. We picked up the bare necessities we should have in the house and I decided that I will check out one shelter directly tomorrow. Meanwhile I thought to myself – will I look like that in 10 years now that I have decided to become a cat owner?
So many cats and yet not one for us
That is my favorite painting. It’s like my theme. I could see me there in a few years.

I know 🙂 I remember that you told us it is your favorite and it was on my mind as I searched for it.

Check with your local vets’ offices. They may have kittens or littermates to place.

Alto2 is right – we got Badu from our vet. Someone had dropped her and her littermates in their dumpster! Happens all the time.
