Rainy Day Camp Report

You know, it just figures that I woke up this morning and had about 3 different ideas for posting!! I wrote them down and will use in December when it will otherwise be too hectic to be creative 🙂

SportsBoy came home from 6th grade camp today. To rain and more rain. Actually, it started raining overnight here at the coast and also at the mountain camp where they were. Luckily though, the weather had been perfect Mon-Thurs. He had a blast at the camp and said he was sad to leave friends he made from other schools. But he also said he wanted to get home to ‘real food’ and his own bed. It was quite an adventure for them getting home though. We are in the middle of a rare rain storm here that has pretty much been non-stop since the morning. So their buses took extra long to get down from the mountain. Many of us waited under the generous overhangs outside the school buildings watching the wind and rain and talking about the kids of course. They ended up being an hour late. Of course, there was an extra hard down pour as they unloaded their gear from the buses meaning everything got pretty wet. We stopped for lunch and I heard about archery and climbing walls and campfires and stargzing and night hikes and cabin mates who snored and how he won a Compassion Award for being the buddy to a special needs boy during the week. He loved his camp counselor, but said the food was not so great. IOW, typical camping experience! Well, except for the hot dog that he got to roast right over an open fire during the Outdoor Living course.

Oooh, the news just said it’s been 2 inches of rainfall since midnight last night. It’s good for the area of course, but challenging for the recently burned areas. Also not good for my outdoor lights! I just saw the lights try to come on with the timer, flicker, and then go out. Too many wet connectors out there for it to turn on and stay on. Ah well. At least the inside is lit up and pretty. A fire in the fireplace would be perfect, but I need to buy a grate to hold the logs first. I also need to go to the grocery and go out and buy stamps (the holiday cards arrived yesterday!), but…nah…so much easier to stay inside tonight.

And thus endeth NaBloPoMo. I did it…but I was not always proud of what I wrote!! I also did not spend as much time as I wanted checking out other’s blogs, though I did stumble upon a few that I liked and will continue to visit. I did comment more than I usually would too.

Oh yes, for those who want to do the walking challenge, email me at my contact address and we can talk about what the goal should be and how we will keep each other motivated 🙂
