One of my crazier evenings to be sure! We had a Powerhouse Board meeting planned for 6:30 at the newly opened D Street Restaurant in downtown Encinitas. Two of the board members are part owners in this place and I had the pleasure of attending their private opening night so I was really looking forward to the meeting. I left my desk at 6:00 and moved my car to another spot in the garage to pick up some stuff from a co-workers car and my car DIED. As in, battery DEAD. Strangely for me, I panicked a little. I think because I did have somewhere to go and I had prepared for two nights for it with financial reports and stuff and I was thinking I could not make it. But SP brought me back down to earth and pointed out that it probably WAS just the battery. Luckily one of the accountants was still there too and he helped me jump start my car. Meanwhile I was in contact with one of the other board members and he convinced me to still go and promised someone would jump start my car again if needed. Didn’t have to twist my arm! SP of course rescued me by meeting me partway to the restaurant with a set of jumper cables. Well, I am really glad I went to the meeting. I have been a member of this board for two years now and I was SOOO nervous at first. Playing with the Big Boys I call it. These guys really intimidated me at first. But I stayed quiet and listenend and I guess I have held my own because now they regularly compliment my efforts and listen when I talk. But here’s the thing – toward the end, the guys who own this new restaurant tell me they want to seriously talk to me about getting in on the ground floor of something with them! WTF?? Of course we had all had a bit to drink and I was still nervous about the car starting again (it did!) so I suggested that we talk another day without the booze. They agreed and I am supposed to call tomorrow to setup a time to talk. Sheesh! How am I supposed to sleep? I am already out of sorts over the car thing (gonna drive the oldcar tomorrow and meet up with Marcus after to get a new battery at Sears). Now this?! The restaurant business? What are these guys up to and how do I fit in? And how can I get SP involved?!! This kind of thing is HIS passion and I want to share it with him! He so needs something to jump start (intentional pun there) his life into a new direction career-wise. Oh, and just before I left the office, I talked to Alohaleezy from Bootrib for about 20 minutes on the phone. Instant connection. We are planning to go to a local Dem party meeting Thursday night to listen to a Gold Star dad talk. Lee met this man in Crawford when she went to join the peace vigil. Hopefully she and I will carpool up there.
Man – whatta NIGHT!
Hey…as long as this “deal” involves free drink and food at D Street for a certain new local, I’m all for it! (wink)
Actually “intrigued” so keep me/us posted. Thanks for linking my blog too!!!
