More Soul Dancing

I have memories from I dont know HOW far back to taking a great deal of enjoyment from digging in the dirt. I remember this really awesome hole that I dug – quite deep but with ledges and caves for some animal figurines that I collected from a gas station giveaway. Oh man so I remember the excitement and anticipation when I new pair of animals arrived! It must have been a Noah’s ark kind of promotion. I dont know for sure. I just remember that we got them at the Arco station that was on the corner just outside our neighborhood. At the corner of Brookhurst and Hazard in Westminster Ca. Funny how some things stick so clearly in our minds.
The Only Child scenario meant that I had to get very imaginative with my playtime. And I remember hours spent with those animal figurines and digging and creating “homes” for them. I have been told that since I am an Earth sign I have a natural affinity for working with the soil. Could be true! My hole digging that I loved so much as a child has become a deep love of gardening as an adult. For me, it is a source of relaxation, and clearing of my mind. A meditation.
This house I bought 2.5 years ago does not have what you would call a traditional yard or garden. Guess I should not be surprised! Figures I would get something that was this oddly shaped, hard to work with blank canvas. Year three with it has brought me to starting to have some fun. I bought all those flower bulbs online and started planting them last weekend. Today I spent more time pulling weeds and generally working the dirt. I also got an inspiration for how to use the many pots I have remaining from my condo renting days. So tomorrow I am off to the nursery (a favorite place!) to buy soil and plants.
I think I will treat myself to a new fuschia. Oh yeah…I’m grinning right now just thinking about it! A weekend digging in the dirt! Heaven 🙂

  1. FUN!!! Love, love, love digging in the dirt. Or as Seth would correct me, the SOIL! (He has his BS in soil science and can tell you all the chemistry and stuff like that about gardening and soil properties.)

I’ve missed the past 2 summers of gardening, after making many beds of flowers and herbs in the old house, and I’ve missed that a lot. This year will be some container vege gardening, some ‘front-of-the-condo’ shrub and flower beautifying, and some container herb planting too. I went from having 5.5 acres, to .25 now. Sniffle… And there’s not a lot of sun, so it will be, ahem, fun and challenging to garden this year. I am excited about getting back into it… Yippee! 🙂
