The state capitol building. With protesters out front on the Saturday before a primary election.
Apparently this group wants the voters to listen to Jesus before voting 🙂 They were so loud that our school group decided to use a side entrance rather than this main one.

The Assembly chamber. Colored in green to represent the farmers and commoners. The senate chamber was red to represent the weathly landowners and businessowners. Notice the laptops at each assmebly member’s desk. Apparently those are NOT connected to the internet. They are also supposed to be free of games 🙂 When I took my older son on this same trip we went on a day they were in session and it was chaotic. The center screen displayed whichever bill they were voting on. The number and general description of the initiatie. The side screens showed the assembly names and a “yay” of “nay” column which would light up as they would vote by pushing a button from their desks. Pretty cool actually!

Taken in a hurry which is why it is poorly centered, but this is DS2 in front of Ahnold’s office. It still seems so surreal that the Terminator is our freaking Governor!

California Redwood – there are many of these on the grounds surrounding the capitol building. Gorgeous.

It was hot hot hot up there yesterday! Icky. But the boys in our group all verified that it was a great day on the flight home. After the capitol building, we visited Sutters Fort, then on to old town sacramento and the railroad museum. Pretty much the same tour as I was on with Nick. The freaky part was a demonstration of a surgical procedure at Sutter’s Fort. A lady pretended to be a doctor and showed us the instruments she would use and described the steps to amputate an arm. No anesthesia! All as if it was 1854. Oh it was gross – which means the boys loved it :->
