I wasn’t going to gloat. I was going to a quiet winner. But then I thought back to how hopeless and devastated and downright angry to my core that I was in 2000 and especially in 2004. And I decided that it is OK for me to celebrate. Thank you thank you thank you thank you! Well, I cannot personally thank all the voters who got out and put the ‘x’ next to the Dem candidate. I cannot personally thank all the wonderful volunteers who got out the vote. I cannot personally thank all the bloggers who started the netroots efforts which support Howard Dean’s 50 state strategy. I dropped a note of thank to Markos at DailyKos for being a leader of the movement, for inspiring some to run, and many many many to volunteer on a campaign. We did it!! There will now be OVERSIGHT. For the last two years of his term at any rate, Bush will hopefully not be able to do any MORE damage. I’m sure he will finally find his veto pen, but that’s ok. Funny how today his press conference had such a different tone! What happened to that “mandate” that every last media talking head said he had after ’04? Those “liberal” newscasters who coined the term the night of the election. The term which Bush and company ran with for weeks. We have a mandate! Please. Gimme a break. You got entirely too full of yourself, full of your power. It was not just Bush though – it was the congressional and senate leaders too. They shoved the Dems into basement offices, and rendered them entirely powerless. And not one of those powerful GOP officers was willing to turn a critical eye at the White House and it’s actions. Not one. Pathetic. So, no, I cannot just celebrate quietly!! I am filled with HOPE. I cannot wait to see what the first FEMALE Speaker of the House does. Speaker Pelosi. The sound of that was supposed to strike fear in voters hearts according to the GOP campaigners. Not so apparently. GOOD. Now it has been made official that the Senate belongs to the Dems too. So now it is Senate MAJORITY Leader Harry Reid. Fabulous. I was so impressed with him in Vegas. Please oh please all my true blue leaders – please do not let us down.
On a local note, California did reject the parental notification initiative. Whew. Hopefully two defeats in a row will get the message through to the anti-choice groups to get out of our state with that crap. Also, the school board incumbents who I thought had also been in power too long and were abusing that were voted out. I am still stuck with carpetbagger Bilbray as a congresscritter, but now he is part of the minority party so his damage should be minimized.
WaHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :->
