First ever baseball championship!

I know it’s hard to tell, but that’s a gold medal! We had to leave so early this morning that I forgot my camera so this is the only picture taken in haste just now for this post. After earning the #1 seed last weekend, the championship round was made up this morning. The idea was to beat the rain which of course only comes to San Diego on weekends!! Up until yesterday morning we did not hink we would play because our families had not put this weekend on their calendars for Saturday games so 3 of them for sure were. 2 others were iffy until Friday at 9:00 when the calls came in that they could make it. 9 players! Then we needed a manager since ours is shared with the 11 year old team which was having their tournament this weekend. So we got the 9 year old team manager (ours from last year so he knows the players) to drive out there for us and coach the first game at 9:00am. That semi-final game ended in the 4th with us up 11-2 (8 runs up after 4 = mercy rule). We had a 20 minute break and then went right into the championship game. Did I mention that rain was threatening? It was around 58 degrees and drizzly when the first game started. It got colder as the games went on! It would rain jsut enough for us to use umbrellas, but not enough for the umpires to call it. We were freezing in the stands. The kids were freezing on the field! Thankfully we closed out the final game in just 3 innings with a final score of 18-3 (15 runs up after 3 = mercy). Tournament champions! Finally! Some of these kids have played together for 4 years now and this was our first championship. Everyone played well – our hitting was wonderful! Huge improvement over last year. I hope A doesn’t get too used to this winning thing πŸ™‚

Now we are settled at home. We baked a batch of Jubilee cookies (thank you Family Blender) and are very happy in our warm home.

My voice is back after a bout of laryngitis from the cold. That hit me of course on Thursday. Oh, court for N was easy. Long, but easy. An additional $300 fine for falling behind on his classes, but nothing more. He has until Feb to get everything done and I am pretty confident that he will to prevent another night in jail πŸ™‚ I had way too much fun at Horton Plaza! Then I had way too much fun at the Silent Auction. Decided to medicate my hoarse voice with some vodka lemonades. Weeeeeeeeeee!! Made $7500 at the event. Lower than previous years, but still enough for what we need it to cover and also considering there was no chariperson for the event until just a month before! Had a lot of fun with everyone. Stayed home to nurse the hangover and vocal chords yesterday. Much better today. M is better too :->
