I have been naturally distracted all week by the tragedy at VT. So frightening especially as more details come out about the very disturbed person who did this and the many things that were attempted to get him help, but were obviously unsuccessful.
I read about the extreme guilty that the South Korean community feels and that they hope it does not mean we will be more suspicious of them. I had to shake my head at that. No, we certainly should NOT let this impact our opinions of Koreans. Did we let the previous mass shootings – largely enacted by white males – create tensions for white men? Yeah, thought not. So this better not cause tensions or that will truly indicate what a racist nation we have hiding underneath our supposedly inclusive exterior.
Ok, let’s lighten this up a bit. Following up on my dad from the previous post – I saw him Sunday and he had the decency to look sheepish and laugh at himself for being so easily duped again π Yay, he has not bought into the society of fear quite as deeply as I thought! He just forgot to check, trusted the source and thought it was ok. I reminded him that unless he is getting a first person account of these tales, Snopes should always be his first place to go. We got a good laugh out of his gullible nature.
Omigosh did DS2 make the biggest play ever at his Little League game yesterday! A diving catch of a very hard hit line drive that nearly knocked the glove off his hand. Instead, he hung on and recorded the out which preserved his team’s second victory by a 4-2 score. Yes, we are 2-9! Ah well, they play hard, always smile and certainly fight the entire way. And occasionally they catch a break like yesterday. I was so happy for him π
Our church preschool has a number of Korean families. The diector told me that mom had arrived to pick up her child today and apologized multiple times. The director was pretty mystified, as her family had been without power for two days since the winstorms on Monday, an didn’t even know that the shooter had been IDed yet.

My ex is a VT alum. I feel sorry for him, not sorry enough to call him however.
This is what happens when people are allowed to fall through the cracks in society.
Hugs and Smooches,
Patti
