Unexpected beauty-Day 1

I didn’t think I would have anything tonight. Actually, I was going to give myself a mulligan since I’d taken the time to write about the theme earlier. Then I came home and a half dozen different little things went wrong to put me in a foul mood as I sat down to my leftover dinner. No one to cook for tonight and leftovers available if SP did come by for dinner so I was safe to simmer in my mood and read the paper. Then SP swung by and cleaned up the kitchen he’d left dirty last night (one of those little things irritating me) and then he moved the sofa where we found two catnip mice the cats had shoved under there who knows how long ago. So after he left I sat and watched the cats playing with their new found (again!) toys and felt myself unwinding. Sat down to read DailyKos and came upon this image:

This is a photo taker by a dkos member named dadanation. He took on Sunday in SF. This is a form of sidewalk graffiti art. The artist uses only a black stencil. He finds long dried out splotches of paint on the sidewalks – splotches that could be years old – and uses them to create these drawings. The more I look at this one, the more detail I see – for instance, there is more than one face. I can just imagine walking on a city street and very unexpectedly coming upon something like this. I happen to think it is beautiful in it’s simplicity and creativity.

  1. I love this! And I love the idea of creating something beautiful out of something originally unseemly. Thanks for posting this!
