Today being Sunday with no child at home and no tickets to a ball game (waaaah – I am starting to really miss those!), I decided in addition to the usual weekend cleaning that I would move some things around. As I commented on Rambling Mom’s blog last week, it is so odd to me NOT to have a major home improvement project on the calendar! Every year since I moved here I have done something. But 2007 is supposed to be the year that I take off and enjoy and try to recover financially. BORING!! Thankfully, my parents have inspired a few things. They are looking to move to a more central location and in the process my mom mentioned that she could not be sure she would have room for the piano in a new place. She wanted me to think about whether I finally wanted it or not. Since it is basically mine and just serves in her house as a place for displaying things, I decided to make a go of it. I think I know where it will go – probably where the Christmas tree always ends up. I have no delusions that my gorgeous tree will be possible this year. I will *attempt* to put it up, but if the cats (particularly Amber) just cannot leave it alone, then I am prepared to step down to something smaller. There is another corner it can go in so I would not have to move the piano just for that.
Then there is the fact that I have lost my mantle as a place to display my crystal bowls. I came home one afternoon to the largest one on the ground with a chunk broken off. Damn cats. So today I moved my display cabinet into the dining area. I really like it:
It is much more prominent now and the kitty-corner (haha) tilt lets light in on all three glass sides. I also rearranged some things and brought out my nicer wine glasses to be placed here. Plus, I can see the cool bird magnets that SP gave me for Christmas much better too:
Miraculously while I was moving everything and wiping things down and vacuuming everywhere, the cats took their mid afternoon nap upstairs in DS2’s bed and left me mercifully alone! Of course, now they are using the cabinet as a prop to bounce off their catnip mouse toy:
The next project will be to replace that crappy looking table behind Chip. It’s an end table/cabinet that I had with Ex2 which we got for free. And it looks it. And that was over 15 years ago! Since I can never afford much more than IKEA or Target furniture, that is where I will look for something a little nicer. Wont take much really!! Also, I think I figured out what the next Big Project will be when I can afford it hopefully within the next year. Kitchen cabinets and a stainless steel kitchen sink. I’m not sure if it will be more of a pain and expense to redo the existing cabinets or just get whole new ones. I have some time to figure it out, but that is #1 on my wish list. After toilets. New ones. The ones here are horrible. Old, probably original and even after replacing the internal workings of all three, they never flush properly every time. And there is always one that runs. So toilets and kitchen cabinets and a new sink and a new end table. That’s all. See what you started Rambling Mom???!!!

Have you looked at consignment furniture stores in your area? You might find some great stuff there. I know I have had great luck in the consignment furniture stores around here.
