Summer begins

Today is DS2s last day in San Diego. He has school right now, then afterwards I am leaving work early to take him to the Del Mar Fair for our annual routine of rides and really greasy food. Then I drop him at his dad’s tonight and sometime in the wee hours of tomorrow morning he takes off for his annual summer vacation to Sweden to visit his dad’s family. 6.5 weeks this year! It’s usually 5, but flight availability forced an earlier departure (the last day of school is officially tomorrow). Yes, this happens every summer and I am fine with it – I love that he gets to do this. I take the time to catch up with my friends, go on hikes, go out with SP, clean out a year’s worth of crap from his room and the garage, get my yard in shape etc etc. But this year that number – 6.5 weeks – is floating in my head and wont get out! It was all I could do to keep back the tears as I read to him last night. Pathetic I tell ya!
Sigh…6.5 weeks. I’ll be fine. Really. Right?

  1. You’ll be fine! But, yes, 6.5 weeks is a long time. Try to enjoy the freedom to focus on yourself for a bit. That’s said by someone who’s looking forward to picking up her kids at camp, even though I still have tons of stuff to do at home! Fortunately, I still have 9 more days to take care of that.
