Wiped OUT

Whatta weekend. So after the hike yesterday I got stuff together and shopped for supplies for the Powerhouse tryouts today. Then got my nails done, then came home for a quick cat-nap before heading downtown for the Padre/RedSox game. I met several friends at The Field for some brews and dinner. Great time – surrounded by Bosox fans. It was a very fun/vibrant scene downtown.
The game I went to was The Good One for Padre fans so I had a great time 🙂
Up early this morning so that I could get to the baseball field by 8:30 and help setup. Only when my alarm went off at 7:00 the house was silent. SILENT. No cats making their cooing noises to hurry me out of bed. No whiskers in my nostrils as Chip puts his face right up to mine and paws at my shoulders. SILENT. I look around my room. No cats. Uh oh. Dash out of my room and start calling them. Nothing. Shit. DS2’s room, downstairs, every room. No cats! Finally I focus on DS1’s room and notice his open window – with the screen popped off – SHIT! Start looking out every window as I look for flip flops and immediately see Amber sitting on the back fence. Open the door and call her and she comes to me and is inside. One down. Walk back out and hear the neighbors yappy dogs yapping away but assume it was because of Amber. Call to Chip but get no response. Dash upstairs to put on clothes, call DS1 who had stayed overnight at a friends and warn him, then circle the entire house. No sign. Oh man. Check the food dishes and realize they are full meaning he’s been out awhile. Think back and vaguely remember one cat at my feet most of the night – maybe until 6:00. Had to be Amber as she is too clean and warm and dry to have been outside. Since Chip was originally DS1’s kitten, he probably pushed open that not quite shut bedroom door looking for him last night. Think terrible thoughts about cars and coyotes. Forget he is micro chipped. Bail on eating breakfast or having tea before tryouts. Go back outside and walk around the whole block. Nothing. Sit down at computer to steady thoughts and figure out a plan. Post panicked message to August moms just to get someone else thinking good kitty thoughts for me. About 30 seconds after hitting send, I hear the yappy dogs going bananas in the back again. Dash outside and call out to neighbor “Leslie – do you have a cat in your yard?” “Yes, is it yours?” “Oh thank god – is it white and grey and black?” “Yes! it keeps hissing and wont let me touch it” “I’m coming over!” Poor baby was huddled in the corner of her yard, face pressed against the fence shared with my yard, shaking and cold and wet. Dogs are yapping around him. He hears my voice and looks up with those eyes I scooped him up and held him close (something he normally hates). When we got back inside, I checked him out and other than being cold and wet and dirty and scared, he is fine. He didn’t even hide upstairs for very long. So I was a tad late to tryouts, but at least I could go! Tryouts lasted until 4:30, I was home after 5:30 with groceries. My house is a mess since I was not home to clean, I’ve spent another hour on tallying the money from today for Powerhouse, and now I will sip a beer and watch recorded shows from the week. Mostly I will be very happy tomorrow to go to work and relax!!!
Damn cats. Good thing they are cute:

  1. Well, that second picure of Chip clearly has that “I’m sorry, Mom” look to it. Bad cat! You should have given him a little bath and a big lecture! Glad he’s home safe.

  2. Oh my!! I’m so glad that you found him pretty easily. Damn cats. 🙂 Very happy that he’s back home safe and sound.

I had to have D reinforce one of our screens after I found the cat hanging on it with all 4 paws, shaking it back and forth. Having kittie-pie escape out of a busted screen into the big bad world is not a happy thought. I’m glad Chip is OK.
