This is what I came home to today. DS1 had put the screen back up as promised. He also vacuumed the downstairs. However, we both forgot that there was already a hole in the corner of this screen from when we first moved in. It was created to allow for smoking in his room with the idea that he could stick the cigarette out keeping the smoke from the house. I found a couple of butts down there back in ’04 and then reminded him that the smoke would just go UP and right into My bedroom window! For awhile he had covered the hole with masking tape, but then we both forgot about it. Clearly, the cats took the opportunity today once he had left to expand upon that hole. Yeah, he left the window open. So I came home to an empty house. I check the room and finally focus on this hole. With a resigned sigh I called out to the cats. Immediately Chip’s head appears in the open spot in the screen from the other side! He must have just gotten out, or was still so scared from the last adventure that all he did was stay put in the plants below the window. Amber – who I suspect was the doer of the deed at the window, responded to my voice with a loud yowl. I opened the front door and she came walking around the corner from the backyard and sauntered inside as if it was all totally normal. Sigh….
More bad kitties
I have your summer project — you can build an indoor/outdoor kitty play area. Something outdoor, but enclosed, that they can reach from the house.

RM’s outdoor play area is what we call our “lanai” here in Florida: the screened pool enclosure.
FWIW, I trained my cats to come when I whistle (like for a dog). It’s very useful … and impressive to guests.
So, are you going to declaw your little friends??
