Sunday Fair Fun

The traditional fair outing photo! Check out my shoes and her hat. Both fair purchases. We both bought these shoes after a bit of a tussle 🙂 I had to dig around to find another pair so there would not be a fight. The theme of the fair this year was a salute to heroes which is why we are posing in front of a sheriff’s car. We *wanted* to pose with the back of a fire truck as a prop, but the sheriff wouldn’t do that. Ah well. The cool thing was that after all the shopping and some eating (Indian fry bread for me and fried zucchini for her) we had the chance to sit down in a nice chair, put down our bags and listen to the retired Chief of FDNY talk about the heroes of 9/11.
He was there that day leading the crews. He retired in ’06 and I guess goes around talking about it now. What a great speaker! He took us right back to that day with descriptions of the sights and sounds and specifically with stories about what he saw the firefighters do. How many of them knew they would not be going home that night. How they hugged and kissed each other goodbye before heading up the flights of stairs because they knew. How not one of them refused to go up. Even though I think we all KNEW that is how it went down, to hear it told from someone who was there – who ordered those units up those stairs – who barely ran out of the north tower in time and hid under a tanker as it fell – well, that was something I will never forget.

I’ll take more pictures later of the purchases. I am particularly excited about one! Seems like a must have for everyone who hates how your grocery bags fly all over your trunk. I’ve been especially noticing that since the purchase of the wagon. Problem solved – and in a snazzy hot pink color!
