7 random facts about me

  1. I was a real tomboy growing up. Short hair (pixie style thanks to my mom-ewww), no jewelry, never wore skirts. In fact, I can remember the first skirt that I willingly wore to school – I was 13!
  2. In contrast to my childhood, my biggest girly girl trait now is that I have been getting my nails done (acrylics) for about 15 years.
  3. My first crush that I remember having on a boy was on John McEnroe – 1979. Shoot, I was 14 – late bloomer!
  4. My first kiss though – well, I caught up fast! I was 15 on a cruise with my parents through the Panama Canal and I flirted with and ended up in the stateroom of a 27 year old Italian waiter!! Ooh la la. Only kissing though. Did the same thing the next summer with a 23 year old waiter. Managed not to hook up with anyone on my final teenage summer cruise – I have no idea why not! 🙂
  5. As a teenager I was fascinated with spirituality and the occult. I was living on campus at The Bishops’ School in La Jolla and I would walk up Girard to a New Age bookstore (across from the Haagen Daz ice cream store that opened up around my senior year!) and I would spend hours reading books from their shelves on everything you can think of. I was totally into numerology and astrology for awhile. Once my quest for knowledge was sated though, I ended up pretty much rejecting all of it and vowing to never belong to an organized religion again. Yeah, I sometimes boggle my own mind!
  6. My ears were pierced when I was 6 with ice cubes and a needle at the kitchen table in the house of my mom’s friend on a hilltop overlooking the Escondido valley. Some things are just seared into your memory aren’t they?
  7. I once gave myself a massive headache by overeating my own birthday cake. The tradition as I was growing up was for my mom to make a particular chocolate chocolate chip bundt cake. Very simple. No frosting. Just *chocolate* and lots of it! My senior year at Bishop’s when I turned 18 in Jan 1983, my mom sent me back from Christmas holiday break with a whole cake. I did share with a *few* dorm friends, but not many!! I still remember waking up around 2:00am in my room thinking I was about to die because it felt like the top of my head was going to just explode. And that was when I learned my lesson about over-indulgence :->

  1. I also got my ears pierced at the kitchen table with a sewing needle, ice cubes, and a cotton ball soaked with rubbing alcohol. The smell of rubbing alcohol still reminds me of getting my ears pierced. It was our teenaged next-door neighbor who pierced my ears. I was older than 6, but that’s a whole different story.
