OK, not lazy lazy..but…here’s the example: Friday afternoon I had some errands to run after I dropped SportsBoy at football practice. Errands that needed to be done, but that had no specific deadline other than they were hanging over my head. Yet, I was *tired*. Eyes closing while I drove home tired. Now, I could have pushed through that and completed the tasks easily. But I didn’t. I gave in to the closing eyes and went home and took a nap. Something like that happens about once a week. When it happens, I feel guilty. Like I am not mentally tough enough or healthy enough to push through. I feel lazy. Then I remind myself that its OK. Pushing yourself 100% all the time is what is not healthy. Sometimes you just need to take a nap!
Two close calls in the last few days with SportsBoy. Saturday we were crossing a rather busy street and stopped half way in a median and he nearly tripped on a raised part and fell into oncoming traffic. I mean, he was doing the leaning forward with his upper body thing and straining his lower body to get back up! Freaked me right out it did! I grabbed him by the back of the shirt, but he was already regaining his balance on his own. Thank gawd for the strong lower body of his. Thank you football! Then tonight, we barely missed being hit by someone completely blowing through a red light. Thankfully I had slowed down approaching the intersection because another car coming on my right came at a strange angle and I had to brake to let him pass and make a right turn. Then I continued straight through and halfway across a minivan just zipped right in front of me! If that first car had not slowed me down, we would have been clipped for sure, and on SportsBoy’s side too. I just shook my head and told him that was his second close call in less than a week. He said it just shows how close life and death are. I told him that is why you live every day to the fullest and being the best you can be. He replied that then it was a good thing he’d had such a great scrimmage – if something had happened he felt like he would have gone out on top! 🙂 That kid!
He was right though. He – and his team – had an awesome practice game tonight. We have another scrimmage Wed night up in Mission Viejo against what should be a very tough, hard hitting team. Perhaps more of a test, but still, one measure of a good team is to be careful not to play down if you meet a weaker team. Keep playing at your best level and never stop. They sure did a good job of that. Sportsboy had several strong runs and one touchdown run. Then on defense they called three plays for him to blitz from his linebacker position and all three tims he pushed back the blocker in front of him and got to the ball carrier. The third time the guy he pushed back was huge! Has to be one of those who will barely make weight on Saturday at 105. SportsBoy weighs 78. No contest ;->
