20-16. They did it AGAIN!! Pulled another victory out of their hats. Our very good buddy #12 who is our kicker as well as plays offense and defense had just an amazing game. Several critial 3rd down catches, a key interception and a couple of great game saving tackles. My #55 was not as sharp as the previous 3 games, but he did make a couple of good tackles and disrupted another pass attempt. But man, there was one *sweet* pass play from #7 to #16 for our 3rd score which was one of the prettiest passes all year. After a kinda rough first half when his passes were off the mark, #7 came back Big Time in the 2nd half when it was needed. Each of our runners – #32 and #33 had a score and really if not for just 2 well run misdirection type plays from the other team for their scores, we all felt we should have won with a shutout. They won, but again, not with their “A” game all around. But, they won and that is all that matters. Now, they play the Sunday after Thanksgiving at HOME!!!
After the game, the other two boys who play baseball with us joined us for a quick lunch, a change of clothing and gear bags and then hit the road. We had driven 70+ miles to get to the football game and then had to drive 79 miles to get to baseball (part way back towards home actually, the baseball field is really only 45 away from here, but the path from the football to baseball was a big old loop). I officially logged over 200 miles today. Baseball…eh….first game was horrid. Our football #12 turns into baseball #51 and pitches and he was clearly gassed. After winning every Sunday game, they lost both games tonight. It’s a tournament with only 4 other teams in it though so after a full night’s rest they can still pull things off tomorrow. Hopefully!! But really, the boys had a blast just being together and playing so it’s all worth it. We head back up there tomorrow for a noon game so we can sleep in a bit! Yay! We were out the door this morning at 7:30 and got home a little after 9:00pm.
I gotta tell ya though – this football thing is a BLAST!!! You shoulda seen and heard us making all sorts of noise in those stands. Stomping our feet and clanging cow bells. It used to be that only a couple of the moms wore their son’s old jerseys. Now it is nearly all of us AND the grandmas too!! At one point after one of our touchdowns as the boys rushed to huddle around coach and they started bouncing together around him as a team, another mom and I started bouncing in the stands with them!!! I just started laughing and called to her: “You know what #12 – we are WEIRD!!” She just laughed with me and said “We knew that!!”
OK, I need to sleep. I will TRY to not only bring my camera tomorrow to take pictures from baseball, but also to post them. Riiiiight. 🙂
OK, I just went upstairs and peeked into his room and this is what I found:
He bargained with me to let him shower in the morning. Eye black is still visible, on his hand you can still see the “P” and “K” that they write on him to remind that he is on the Punt and Kick return teams. Blue Bear was probably in his hands but ended up on his chest as his hands fell away and Pikachu leads the pile of other stuffed animals at his side against the wall. Congratulations to the GOLDEN Falcons! I’m looking forward to Orlando!
