If you’ve spent any time visiting here, you know that I am not religious at all. However, last night, I was in the presence of a god. The God of Guitars. Edward Van Halen. Anyone who has *any* appreciation of rock music has got to see this man play in person. His guitar solo is worth the price of admission. Yes, it was truly awesome to see Diamond David Lee Roth fronting the band as it always should be with them. It was truly heartwarming to see Eddie’s son Wolfgang playing on stage with his dad. Wolfgang is only 16 and plays a mean bass guitar! But then, with those music genes (dad and uncle) and then just being around all of that from birth I guess it is natural like breathing to him. Witnessing the two generations play together was so awesome. Several times they exchanged fist bumps or hand slaps and then at the end dad gave his much larger son a big hug and kissed him on the head right there in front of the packed crowd. So sweet. Diamond Dave was his usual flamboyant, raunchy self and kept everyone dancing and laughing and clapping. But, THE reason to be there was to hear Eddie play. MusicMan and I saw the band with Sammy Hagar fronting it about 3 years ago and we were anticipating the guitar solo because we remembered how he can make sounds come from the guitar that you just would not expect. He did not disappoint. He had that instrument sounding like it was about 5 instruments at once. At one point you could close your eyes and swear you were listening to a classic violin. Then it became a horn of some kind, then it was almost piano-like. Just with his one electric guitar and his two hands. Just stunning. You get chills up and down your spine hearing him play like that. And that was Christmas Present #1 for me and the main one for MM. Quite a night. After quite a day. Lows to highs. No in between yesterday that’s for sure!
Oh, and it’s now night #4 after putting up the tree and gradually filling up the mantle and there are no signs of trouble from the cats. I need to catch up on sleep tonight, but I think I may brave a few ornaments tomorrow evening. Fingers crossed!
UNbreakable ornaments. And if you use hooks to put ornaments on the tree, now would be the time to migrate to something else. I have used both pipe cleaners (red or green) or curling ribbon. The cool thing about curling ribbon is you can tie it to the ornament and leave it on year after year.
