Dancing the night away

Since I decided yesterday to buy those MP3 players, I thought I should take advantage of a quiet Friday night at home and start downloading some music from my CD collection. Since my CD collection is really rather pitiful when compared to most peoples, it was been alphabetized for awhile. So, I didn’t have to do as my friend The Music Nerd did and being first by organizing. However, I also had a little bit of fun with the task 🙂 I started at what I thought was the beginning of my collection with Aerosmith and worked my way up to Duran Duran. As I was ripping each CD….

*pause*..did you see that?…I used the word ripping in a sentence!..I was “ripping” music last night!…How hip and in-the-now am I huh? Huh? So yeah, we are only getting MP3 players this year but still..I was “ripping” music…I am so NOT old. Yet. Sorta. Whatever….*play*

..as the CD would rip the media player would start playing the CD. So, in the time it took each CD to be ripped, (you realize I am going to use the word as many times as possible, right?) I got to listen to the tunes. It was a lot of fun! Around the time I wanted to eat I had put in Jimmy Buffett’s “Fruitcakes” and I let that one play all the way through as I had not listened to it in a long time. After dinner I suddenly realized that I had not ripped any AC/DC! Sure enough, I had opened my CD case on the second fold of inserts and missed an entire band. As AC/DC ripped and played, well…I suddenly noticed that my lovely wood laminate floors made a fun dancing surface in my socks. Plus, I have this great open entry area. Recently cleaned by MusicMan (my new cleaning service) and just begging for some dancing. So I spent about 15 mins dancing for the cats. Right. They watched, but with a little bit of terror in their eyes. The dancing was somewhat inspired by this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy since the final scene had many of the characters just dancing without abandon at the end of a particularly dramatic day at the hospital. That reminded my how therapeutic dancing can be. And also that you don’t need to have a partner or go to a club to do it. Heck, I have a dance floor right there behind me every night as I sit here and waste time on the internet. Perhaps in my endeavor to Move Move Move I should take advantage of that. I sure know that the 15 mins of dancing to AC/DC felt like a damn good aerobic workout. Especially since the last song was “Rocker” with a hard driving main beat and undertones of 50s dance music. That got my heart racing! As my own study in contrasts, I decided to wind down just after with some Handel while I finished reading my book. Yep, followed up AC/DC with Handel. My collection may not be as large and varied as Miss Music Nerd’s, but I sure do have those studies in contrast!!!
