Blog traffic

For any of you other blog hostesses (or hosts), have you ever noticed an unusual pattern in your blog visits? OK, take a step back. Do you guys check your sitemeter and blog stats all the time like I do? Perhaps I am on alert since I’ve had one outright troll back on the first version and then more recently another reader who crawled through all sorts of old posts over a one week period causing me to pull or edit those posts. Today it is just one post from September that has received 12 hits today – clearly someone saw it and thought a certain group of people would be interested and they forwarded a direct link to that post in an email because a large number of the hits originated from email servers. I am not sure how to take that! Ok, actually, it’s a bit disconcerting. Maybe I should be flattered that someone really like my writing? I dunno.

Update – there have now been 33 views of that post over the weekend! Crazy. Yes, I think that LSM has nailed it especially when I look at the location of the visitors on my sitemeter stats – the majority coming from the opposing team’s city.Β  Of course, I also forgot that I put my site on my holiday letters this year! Though none of the folks in my address book would be forwarding that particular link on to the opposing team. It’s ponderous man, really ponderous (points to those who can remember that reference) πŸ˜‰

  1. I check sometimes — I don’t dig around too much. I notice that there seem to be some patterns (if I write about chocolate and male appendages my hit count goes through the roof — same with dead pets). I know a while back I wrote a post (last January) about animal rescue http://ramblingmom.wordpress.com/2007/01/16/for-all-you-do/ and that thing got linked to all over creation. You just might have hit on something that somehow rang true to a number of people. It could be that someone was searching for something about football or pop warner and this resonated.

  2. I started paying attention after the clerk from the Skunkape research headquarters store found my blog and commented after I mentioned him in my Black Friday Everglades Style post. I am constantly amazed that people have the spare time to search so broadly for material to read!
