Christmas Hangover Day

What? That isn’t the official name for today? But, it should be! Sugar hangover! Too much food in general hangover! Spending money hangover! Wrapping paper hangover! Christmas music hangover!

Ah well.

Thanks to Dell being so generous, I am now in hyper music download mode. Demands for more music on the MP3 player are high 🙂 I am now more than halfway through our own CD collection, but we have not even started to seriously put anything on the players. Just a few key songs to test the process (ridiculously easy). I spend a few hours today on this task alone. After lunch, I insisted on some quiet reading time and SB got started on his first Harry Potter book! Yes, we are the ONLY family in America, I know, who has not yet read a single HP book. Seen the movies, but never read a book. That will change this year. Grandma gave SB the paperback versions of the first 3 books and he also has them in Swedish at his dad’s. We thought it would be a good exercise for him to read the same book in both languages. While he reads it here, I will read them too so that we can talk about what is happening, and more specifically, how many things will be different from the movie. Of course, being after lunch, and the sun shining on the sofa that I was on while reading, and it being Christmas Hangover Day (I am just declaring that So There!), I immediately transitioned from reading time to nap time 🙂

When I woke up, SB decided it was time to play Cash Flow. Well, this game is right up my alley! Money geeks unite! First, he recommended that we take the paper sheets provided with the game and create an excel spreadsheet on the laptop instead as that would make the game go faster vs handwriting in all the activities. Well, sure, I could have created one, but hey, I know how to use The Google! Like *that* I found what is now my favorite website. It’s Excel Geek User Heaven. Check it out. Yeah, pretty cool eh? Budgets and charts and mortgage calculators and….what? Too geeky? Ok, sorry. What can I say? It’s Christmas Hangover Day! So, anyway, 4.5 hours later – yes, you read that right – SB finally reached his Dream Goal and beat me. But, it was close. And it was fun. And yes, it was that damn long.

Then his dad called to report that they had just picked up Farmor from the airport and they were heading out for a late dinner around the corner from our house and would we like to join them so that we could visit with the whole Swedish family that has flown in for his wedding? Well, hell yes! Now, you wont see me ever say anything unkind about SB’s dad. We get along great, and I particularly love his family and I was really hoping that I could see them. So this was great. They had called Music Man as well so we all met them there and I got to talk to SB’s uncle and aunt (who were teenagers when I last saw them and are now in their early 20s). So that was a very nice ending to Christmas Hangover Day!
