American Idol – the girls Round 2

Getting to watch this tonight so I’ll just do something brief. Knowing of course that you can go here for a far superior run down 🙂

Carly Smithson – Crazy on You – well she just looked so comfortable in this song. She said it was her dream to sing on AI, and I can see why. Heart totally suits her. I personally agree with Simon that she is the superior singer amongst the girls, she just has to pick the right song (a recurring theme all the time, every year).

Syesha Mercado – Me and Mr Jones – started off really rough. She seems to lose her pitch when sings softly. But man oh man, when she gets to those big notes she just shines. Love the head scarf too 🙂 Oh, and that baby cry thing? Trippy!

(ok, that’s fun – the judges said exactly the same thing!)

Brooke White – You’re So Vain – of course she had to do Carly! She IS Carly! She just bubbles with joy. Vocally she cannot compete in the power range with so many others, but she knows exactly how to use her voice and I adore how she seems to be telling a story as she sings. Perfect song choice for her.

Ramiele Mulaby – OK, I admit that I don’t know the name of this song. I still hate the hair over her eyes thing. However, I love this girl. So much fun, such power in her voice. Another one who should not sing soft and low though. So this was just a bit rough. Not a good song choice (rinse, repeat).

Kristy Lee Smith – You’re No Good – Why don’t I like her? She has a nice enough voice. She’s cute. Ok, she’s a very pretty blonde. But….it’s not that she’s like the song (No Good), but substitute ‘good’ for ‘star’ and I think that is it. She was good. Not great and not a star. I don’t think she will go home, but I don’t see her coming close to winning either.

Amanda Overmyer – Carry On My Wayward Son – uhhhhh. Ack! I used to like this girl! I love that she is a bookworm. You could see there is something more going on with her all the time. Layers and all that to her personality. But this song has started off terribly. She looks like she has a skunk on her head. Oh no. That was bad. She could go home. The ones thing she has going for her is that she is very very unique and could continue to garner votes for that individuality. But based on performance, she should go home.

Alaina Whitaker – Hopelessly Devoted To You – Oh, I cringe when anyone tries to do this song. Heck, I am not sure I like Olivia Newton John singing it!! You know, I think I just don’t like the pretty blondes! Ok, Brooke is an exception because she has some kind of different character to her. But Alaina? Eh? Decent vocal, but I did not like it. That song is just not good dawg. /randy

Alexandrea Lushington – If You Leave Me Now – Oh I love this song! I don’t love the hooded vest though. And I also don’t love her singing this song. Her voice it too thin for it. Ok, really, a female voice it too thin for it. The music ate her up I thought. I still like her but she played it safe.

Kady Malloy – Magic Man – Hmmm. Ok, another pretty blonde. Strike one 🙂 However, I think *this* one has more potential than the other two. This song is allowing her to step out a lot more than last week and stand out on her own. Her personality comes across as a little pyscho! with a dangerous edge. The song vocally did not suit her though. They are so right that her taped spots show a ton more character than her singing performances. Interesting. Maybe she should just go into acting?

Asia’h Epperson (can any of these gals have normally spelled names?!!) – All By Myself – What is it with the softer parts of songs? Why can’t these girls sing them well? They are losing their notes terribly! She is no exception. Oh, it was rough. However, she ended it really well. Ah, now Randy is saying she is the sick one this week and you could tell. Still, this gal has a VOICE and she knows how to use it.

OK, who goes home? Hmmm. Now, after watching both guys and gals tonight I will say that the girls overall were better. There were not, IMHO, performances that were truly bad. So this is harder than it was for the boys to pick….but if it were me with my Barbie blonde issues 🙂 ..I guess I would say Alaina and Kady. Outside shot at Amanda.
