American Idol Top 6

Watching the replay while cooking dinner – oh this will be scattered!!! But, I have not been home other than to sleep the last two nights so I need to catch up here too.

Andrew Lloyd Webber Week – well, this is another iffy theme!! My prediction is that Syesha will shine as this is a theme perfect for her – Broadway!! I have reservations for Jason and Brooke!!

Syesha – One Rock and Roll Too Many – Well she looks HOT in that red dress and I love her hair pulled back. Yes, this girls would be great on Broadway because she uses her face very well to express herself and knows how to do BIG and LOUD and FLASHY really well. Great for the stage. Very very nice performance. I did not predict her to be in the Top 5 – and my top 5 was blasted to hell when Michael was booted BUT, I think she will make it in.

Jason Castro – Memory – oh dear boy should you be doing this? ALW seems quite put off by this guy in dreadlocks singing this iconic song from one of his most popular plays. He didn’t even know it was a CAT singing it!!! Such a lovely song. I need to download it by someone who can, you know, sing it!! Ok, not that Jason was horrible. He wasn’t. The song is just too big for his soft voice. He sure can emote. He’ll be OK this week I think, but I would not have voted for him.

Brooke White – You Must Love Me – Well the opener with ALW sparks hope that she will shine and I agree with him that she comes across as a very good actress. However…her second false start of the season! This one further in and is not as wise as before. And unfortunately I do not think she has the inner strength to be solid after such a false start. Randy called Jason’s song a train wreck, but I think THIS was a train wreck. She was definitely INTO the song and got that emotion she needed, but I think that false start will drop her tonight. Hey, when PAULA is dissing you – you are done honey!! Oh, I love the dress though. Very very pretty. I want it actually!! Interesting, Simon is giving her kudos for stopping and restarting. Interesting.

David Archuletta – Think of Me – Interesting how ALW pointed out that David needs to be conscious of keeping his eyes open when he sings. Now I am going to pay attention to that! He is so good. Dangit. That voice and how he uses it – just a brilliantly talented kid. With a musical soul and ALW put it. What can he sing though? I mean seriously, what is his musical niche? He is actually too GOOD for pop. No way he can do rock. He’s not country. What is he? R&B ballads only? Not a huge road to stardom unfortunately.

Carly Smithson – Jesus Christ Superstar – Interesting how ALW pushed her to do this song – seems she would have been a natural for it! After a few weeks of saying she seemed tentative, not flowing with the song and her vocals…she nailed it. She looked like she was having so much damn fun and she blasted it OUT. She looked awesome – great outfit. Ok, it’s time for me so start being a homer and saying that I LOVE that this girl is from San Diego and that I’ve been to The Field where she WAS a waitress (and will never be doing that again) and just root big time for the local girl. GO CARLY!!!

David Cook – Music of The Night – Interesting that David grew up doing musical theatre and is so hugely in awe of SIR ALW. Mmmm..singing sensually…David can do that!! I love that he is getting to show a softer side. It is still clearly David, but so different than rocker/grungy David. He hit s high note that hot me up off the couch. Amazing. This guy…is IT.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Bottom two were clearly Jason and Brooke. Brooke should go.

Update: I jinxed Carly! Simon did too!!! Waaaaaaaaaah! OTOH as I told SP last night, while Carly and Syesha both have wonderful vocal abilities, something is missing with both of them. Neither one of them made you want to vote for them just because. The Davids, Brooke and Jason have that something which has connected with viewers so that even when they suck, they still get massive votes because people just love them. So, given that angle and given that Syesha did have a truly awesome performance, I guess it makes some weird sense that Carly is gone. Pffffffffffft. Oh, and someone needs to tell our August kids who are on the east coast that it’s not cool to post reaction before anyone on the west coast watched it yet. (Note to self, just stay off the computer before the kick off show is over!!) The irony is that the gal who spoiled it is the daughter of the mom who inadvertently spoiled it for me when Constantine was eliminated :-> So, I was laughing when I got burned again. Oh well.
