Belated this week in politics – maybe its over?

Under the heading of “more than you ever wanted to know about the Democratic primary process” – the Rules and Bylaws committee of the Democratic party finally had their say in what to do about Michigan and Florida and their delegates. The net result? Clinton gains a bit on Obama, but still is going to need a whole lotta superdelegates to switch away from Obama to her in order to gain the nomination. The Clinton camp still left a door open to challenge all of this at the convention. Sigh…while I admire her instinct to fight tooth and nail…I wonder where that fight has been all this time she was in the Senate? How about when she was supposed to handle health care reform in the 90s? Why, at this moment when the party who has supported her and Bill all these years through thick and thin, is she trying to rip it apart? I truly understand her flip flopping on Florida and wanting those delegates seated at full strength. But Michigan? When no other name was on the ballot? I’m sorry but there is simply NO logic to that. For her campaign to not accept this ruling 100% is truly disgusting to me. I love a fighter, but I hate a sore loser (ask Sportsboy who got an earful from me when he was being a poor sport on the LL field today!!) Of course, the irony of all ironies is that if Florida and Michigan had just played by the rules and had their primaries later on, they would have REALLY mattered and could very well have delivered the nomination fair and square to Hillary. Florida for sure, Michigan maybe not as certain had campaigning been allowed, but still. Irony.

The inside scoop is that many undeclared superdelegates and also some others previously declared will be ending this race after the final primaries this coming week. IOW, they are going to rally the party around Obama whether Hillary accepts it or not. But she needs to accept it because that is the only way to start wooing her supporters. Though, from recent polls in Calif, I think those very loud voices who claim they will stick with her no matter what are simply that – loud voices. Obama is already getting the support of voters less married to one of the previous candidates – supporters who are loyal Democrats.

OK, I must get ready for the Sat night dinner now. Oh yeah – no break on Wednesday night – the LL team lost so they play Weds for sure now. IOW – make a mad dash from the algebra placement exam to the game. Ugh.

  1. I was reading about it online as it went on, cuz I couldn’t watch it, really. I did have some other things to do today, too… But, still, it all caught my attention, when I was able to sit with it this morning… It all seemed so crazy… The rules were agreed upon, and go from there… I have to say I’m less than excited after today. I think it’s a big ‘faux pas’ on the way our primaries go…

    Time for the general election.
