It occurred to me after Alto2 posted on her ’96 babe turning 12 that I forgot to post an update on how Sportsboy finished the school year.
First his physical stats from the doctor visit two weeks ago: 56″ tall and 84lbs. For those who keep saying “Oh, he’s growing so tall”..uh..no. Last year he was 55″ and 77lbs. The doctor did say that he has not begun even an pre-puberty growing so there is hope. He’s been predicting from infancy that SB would end up about 5’9 or 5’10 so taller than his dad and I at least and he continues to stick by that. I know that SB sure hopes that kicks in…oh..tomorrow! Given that one of his football/baseball teammates grew SIX inches in one year (and is a few months younger than him), I imagine he is feeling a bit left behind.
Academically, he really turned things around after February’s nose dive. Two classes he maintained with a C+ in writing and a B+ in Science. Bummer about the writing grade, but there is a silver lining coming later. All others he pulled up. Reading went from a C- to B-, Spelling went from a B to an A-, Math went from B- to A- and Social Science went from a C- to a B-. The silver lining is that he was placed into Honors English for 7th grade! Huh? His teacher just gave me a knowing smile when I told her at one of the year end events. Well, she did keep telling him that his letter grade particularly in reading/writing was not properly reflective of his abilities so we will see! Not as surprising was that he was put initially into honors pre-algebra and then allowed to take a test to get into honors algebra. He had to get at least 80% correct on the test and given that he was able to describe to me every concept covered on the test, I was confident he would get in and he did. So he will start 7th grade with two honors classes. YIKES! But, I am proud and pleased and how he worked hard to get those grades up in the spring. So, I know he can do it. I sure am glad he gets this nice vacation though. He needs to rest up!
Wow! Two honors classes, that’s awesome!
And speaking of growth spurts, I was at a neighbor’s house for a meeting and we all heard this huge thudding on the stairs; teenage son appears at the top of the flight, looking about 5 inches taller than usual and all gangly. My neighbor explains that he’s been tripping all over himself, getting used to the height.
