This week in politics – thank you Jon Stewart

Big Week! Hillary and Barack come together in Unity, New Hampshire! Oh, how quaint. Even more interesting is that Unity split it’s primary votes exactly 50/50. Unity. Love it. With Obama rolling the dice and rejecting public financing, he really needs the Hillraisers and, of course, Hillary needs Obama’s help to retire her primary debt. Apparently Obama and one of his top staffers each gave Hillary the max $2300 donation Thursday. Nice, just another $21 million to go for her. Lots of polls showing Obama with some interesting leads in states that went solidly for Bush the last two elections. I do not harbor false hopes from those though. June is so ridiculously early for these things. Again, we suffer the effects of the multiple 24 hours cable news stations so we must listen to their analysis of these way too early polls.

Much more fun this week were my two favorite stories which I was going to write a bit about, but then I watched my recording of The Daily Show from Wednesday night and laughed out loud and hollered “Amen!” a few times and well, I think Jon Stewart pretty much portrays these stories exactly as I saw them, only with more, you know, humor than I can muster. First his take on the story that came out about the White House completely ignoring an email from the EPA on recommendations about greenhouse gases. They. Just. Refused. To. Open. It. My thought? Oh, that was mature! Here are Jon’s thoughts. Nailed it. Especially the end (that’s when I said AMEN!):

Be Patient This Gets Amazing – EPA email.

Side note: – I wish I could get their videos to embed here! Irritates me. But I am setting these to open in a new window so you wont lose your place in your internet surfing πŸ™‚

Next up was the whole James Dobson/Obama dust up. I actually view this as a plus for Obama since hey, Dobson was highlighting a speech Obama made to a christian congregation two years ago referring to passages in the Bible. That should help to push down those muslim email claims! Or, at least push them to the bottom for awhile. So, thanks Mr Dobson. Now, I could go into several paragraphs on why I think Barack is correct about how religion is not the only source of morals but that since religion IS a large source of values, it has a natural place and influence on elected officials. Of course his main emphasis is that religion should not be the basis for legislation or why someone is elected. But I’ll stop there since I do want to keep this light and fun πŸ™‚

Jon didn’t miss a beat on this one either. Not only properly pointing out the absurdity of the whole thing, but also completely discrediting one of Dobson’s points. Love it! Amen again!

Baracknophobia – James Dobson.

Have a nice weekend! I’ve lost my mind a bit and signed up for NaBloPoMo for July. The theme is food. Prepare to be hungry! The big challenge will be integrating food into This Week in Politics and Move 2008 πŸ˜‰

  1. Hey… I love, I love, I love Jon Stewart, he cracks me up.

WordPress is working on an extension for firefox that will hopefully let the blogs post all sorts of videos. The beta version is there now, but I haven’t tried it.

  2. My lasting thought from the Unity speach was how humorus it was that Obama wore a tie that matched Clinton’s pantsuit!

Ha!! That was the first thing I noticed too – and so did the media. Cracked me up when I saw a scrawl at the bottom “Obama and Clinton matching wardrobe!” LorDY!
