Are you ready for football?

Ok readers, you know the drill by now. For the next three months (hopefully four +) this blog will be taken over by pop warner football. Not entirely, but well, a lot πŸ™‚ Because it’s football season! The blog look has changed with the feet of the entire team picture at top and the flickr photos will be from various pratices and games as the season gets going. Right now, it is practice month. First game is 8/30 at home. Wait, home you say? Yes folks, we have 4 home games on the schedule!! 1 pre-season game on 8/30, then 3 regular season games. 3 road games and one bye week. It’s going to be tougher this year. They have moved up one level and the division 1 league is only 7 teams (hence the bye). That means the talent pool in all leagues is focused on just one team. To contrast, last year there were 11 teams in division 1. So each one will be a team of all stars. Practice started last night and continued this morning. They go 5 days a week until school starts, then it will drop to three. One week of conditioning and then full pads and *hitting* begins on the 11th. Nice birthday present for the little maniac πŸ™‚

Oh boy, but he is really the smallest one out there this year!! Shortest for sure, perhaps even the lightest. I’ll check on that for sure on weigh in day 8/23. He’s really going to have use his speed and proper technique to take down those bigger boys! No matter – the whole family is pumped. So, sing it Hank: (just substitute “Saturday” in for “Monday Night”)

  1. As you know, I love football too. This year, I’ll be watching the middle school squad along with the high school one since DD2 will be performing at the middle school games!

  2. Our boy (now 25) was the smallest on his two year’s worth of Pop Warner teams. It was so hard to watch him get crushed every Saturday. I didn’t miss it when he stopped playing. I love watching college and professional football, but watching the kids get bashed around wasn’t my cuppa. Give me a soccer game or swim meet any day.

Ah, but it’s a different situation here. He’s played for 4 years (this is his 5th) and has always been one of the smallest – hasn’t stopped him! He had the highest interception total last year and whenever he did carry the ball he always broke one or two tackles before going down. I figure he can get away with being small and still play the game well through about freshman year in high school.
