Need to get this rant out of my head.

I am so disturbed at the state of the country right now. More than I have ever been in my life. It has really been on my mind so I think I should just let my fingers wander here. Take no offense please. Or do! Some of you may. I don’t apologize for it. It just is the way I feel and see things right now.

Can we PLEASE get rid of these extreme right wingers running our country right now? Please? As a former Republican, I really dont have a deep rooted fear of that party. Not as it is supposed to be anyway. Though I will never go back, I know there is a middle ground to be found. But not with this group. Karl Rove and the Bush family have RUINED it. Every time I see one of them on the tv I think of that Fleetwood Mac song: “Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies” Yeah, I know they are are not the first politicians to lie. Not by a LONG shot. But they have certainly been the most prolific and with the direst consequences. Now, I know that some of my more conservative friends are thinking to themselves that it only SEEMS that way because of the Left Wing Media, right? Ok, well I call bullshit on that one. Back when I was still a member of the GOP during the Clinton years, all I heard about all the time was Whitewater this, Monica that, Troopergate, Jonesgate…constantly. In the so-called left wing mainstream media no less people!! And yes, he lied. And yes, he cheated on his wife. But – hello, that is paling in comparison to this current crowd! Can’t you see that? Ok, so lets just say that HALF of the lies this administration has told are simply “spin” from the Vast Left Wing Media Conspiracy (which they aren’t, but fine there I am trying to meet you half way). That still should leave you plenty to sow some seeds of doubt. First of all, Bush totally got a Free Pass for his first four years. Notice how ALL of these things are coming out NOW – after his re-election. Tin foil hat on: Aint that just special? The media gets to retain SOME measure of credibility while not having actually endangered the group in power who writes their checks.
So here it is. We are a nation constantly fighting to discriminate against gays. Creating an atmosphere of hate. Encouraging the most literal interpretations of the bible. Creationsim is on the rise. There is a multi million dollar industry of bible thumpers going around teaching CHILDREN how to argue against evolution by using the bible as the ONLY source of scientific knowledge. James Dobson is CONSULTED on Supreme Court nominations! Dobson! As admantly pro choice as I am, I also totally respect the pro life stance. However, I cannot support the abstinence only and no birth control crap that comes along with the extremists on that side. And guess what folks? Those are the ones running the country right now. When the President bows to the pressure of the most extremist Christian groups, we have a problem. Worse than that, they are ruining religion for everyone else (and of course totally ignoring the non-christian religious groups). This is why we are supposed leave religion OUT of government! Oh, but that would be following the Constitution, not the Bible. Can’t have that.
Most of all..MOST of all, I have hated to be censored. And we have been. Since 9/11 we have been told ad nauseum that we on the left are un-american, traitorous, helping the terrorists, heathens etc etc. We were strongly encouraged to shut the hell up. Excuse me? Hell no! I am a very proud American. I believe in the Articles on the Constitution. I believe in my right to dissent. I believe that Congresscritters and Senators are suppose to provide Oversight. They are SUPPOSED to quesiton and challenge. If the President’s policies stand up to those tests, then they are most likely for the best. But they should not be accepted blindly. The minority party should not be shouted down and bullied and accused of *only* playing politics. How disrespectful and downright dictatorian can you be? We are supposed to follow you simply because you say so? No way. Not any more. So Barbara Boxer – you continue to question the hell out of everything please. I dont think it is disgraceful for you to do that. I appreciate it. My voice needs to be heard too. You too Senators Kennedy and Reid. You GO Senator Feingold. Yeah, even you Joe Biden. Represent me please.
And the rest of you..the ones who voted for this guy..the ones who still approve of the job he is doing? Look at this list of GOP lies, most of which came straight from the White House:

They lied about not taking bribes.

They lied about who outed CIA operative, Valerie Plame Wilson, to the Press.

They lied about the intelligence they used to justify the War in Iraq.

They lied about President Bush’s meetings with confessed criminal, Jack Abramoff.

They lied about how much the Medicare Prescription plan was going to cost taxpayers.

They lied about spying on American citizens without first obtaining warrants.

They lied about the air quality in and around the World Trade Center after the collapse of the towers.

They lied about the “K Street Project.”

They lied about the revenue enhancing benefits of Bush’s tax cuts.

They lied about Terry Schiavo’s condition.

They lied about Michael Schiavo’s alleged abuse of his wife, Terry.

They lied about when they knew the levees had broken in New Orleans.

They lied about Bush’s record of creating new jobs for the economy.

They lied when they said we’d be greeted as liberators by the Iraqi people.

They lied when they said Saddam had close ties with Al Qaida.

They lied when they said Iraq had sought to buy 500 tons of raw uranium from Niger.

They lied about the danger to Social Security if we didn’t adopt Bush’s plan for “personal” accounts.

They lied about John Kerry’s service in Vietnam.

They lied about Max Cleland’s patriotism.

They lied about the reality of Global Warming.

They lied about their attempts to silence government scientists from speaking out.

They lied about Jeff Gannon’s “special relationship” with the White House.

They lied when they claimed the Abramoff scandal was a “bi-partisan” issue.

They lied when they said the Senate Intelligence Committee would hold hearings on how intelligence about Iraq was misused by the administration in the runup to the war.

They lied when they said we don’t do torture.

They lied when they said they support the troops

The above list was taken from Booman Tribune and a diary by Steven D just to give proper credit there. I didn’t have time to look all those up, but coincidentally he posted it this morning after I started forming a similar list while tossing and turning last night!

Ok, I feel marginally better now.
