21

The day is here. DS1 is 21. Hey – he can have his first drink! (I wish!)

Of course there were times in the past 4 years when making it to 21 was in doubt. I guess that is a part of every teenagers development. Especially boys πŸ™‚

Is he a man now? Wow. I don’t know. Certainly a helluva lot closer to it than I would have thought. He’s shown flashes of responsibility. Honestly, how many guys his age who have worked straight out of high school can say that they’ve held down the same job for 2.5 years? He has committed to performing in a play and has been rehearsing in his down time for 3 months now. The play is in Sept. He’s had the same very nice girlfriend over the same time period. We’ve had some amazing conversations over the past year. He is empathetic, thoughtful, introspective and loving. Family means everything to him. He hated that his South Carolina grandparents sent him money. Was genuinely pissed. He would rather talk to them more often than get money. His regular playdates with his little brother are as important to him as anything. He keeps on trying to attribute certain positive and negative traits within himself to one of his parents, but the last time he did that I finally said “DS1, you are an adult now. It doesn’t matter what you got from you dad or I now. All that matters is what you do with it in your life.”

So my first born baby boy is 21. Holy crap.

  1. WOW…what a great job you’ve done and what a great “man” (still in denial I am) he is…I saw those inklings in him even in his awkward teen years. HAPPY B-DAY NICK!!!

  2. Happy 21st to the luckiest guy on Earth: for having an amazing Mom, for having a great little brother, for finally growing up, and for being here just one more day to celebrate it.
