One year later

One year since the levees broke. The New Orleans blog that I link to has this one line post for today:

WE ARE NOT OK

That says it all. My relatives are finally settled into a new house outside Baton Rouge, but they still have to tend to their old property until insurance can be settled, the house demolished, and then the land sold. One year later and none of that has happened. At least they are lucky enough to have a new home.

It’s the big day for my friends with cancer. Keep them (and grannyLiz) in your thoughts as they will all be receiving results from tests.

It’s also my mom’s birthday. As she said when I called her today – she will always remember when Katrina hit her home town, wont she?

Off to a Planned Parenthood lawyers club mixer with Jax. Finally I get to be going out with her AND touching base with a cause near and dear to me!

  1. No, NoLa is not OK. The federal, state and local govts have let those people down in every conceivable way. Words cannot even express the magnitude of destruction that still exists in that area. I hate to say it, but Louisiana politics is the heart of the problem: incompetence, laziness, and graft will kill that city. The Mississippi Gulfshore is faring better b/c those people got their money and got down to work. [OK, I’ll get off the soapbox now.]
