This is the reward the players get when they shutout the other team. This was a huge victory today against a team which beat us last year by a last minute touchdown. Our coach was stressing all week about it – he wanted payback so bad. During practices all week he had been deadly serious and I not seen one smile out of him. After our first touchdown, I saw a very small one creep out. At the final buzzer he was grinning ear to ear and I don’t think he stopped. It was a hard fought battle. My guy played every defensive down and then returned two punts and was in about 1/3 of the offensive plays. He had two huge blocks on one of the touchdown runs, then carried the call 8 yards himself late in the game. Such fun.
At home later on as I went outside to re-stake the dahlias (the purple ones are having a second growth and bloom spurt after recovering from the too high humidity) I heard an unusual bird call. Looking into the trees in the yard behind me I saw a downey woodpecker! I pulled this sample from google – no chance or proper camera for me to take such a shot. It hung out quite awhile traveling from branch to branch and pausing to hammer away here and there. Such a treat to see a woodpecker in our very suburban backyard!
