5 things

Stealing a topic from, well, nearly everyone on my blogroll, here are the 5 things that I like about my body. I suppose I should preface this by saying that I did not originally fall into the young girl trap of insecurity over my appearance. Not sure why, but I actually made it through high school pretty much accepting that I was not going to be a supermodel and not really caring about it at all. Unlike a lot of girls on the dorm who practically killed themselves (and with the tanning while holding a tin foil platter under their face, may have indeed accelerated their demise), I accepted who I was without reservation. Ah, but then I met Ex#1. From the age of 21 (after DS1 was born) to 24, I listened to a non-stop barrage of all the reasons I was NOT beautiful. Suddenly my nose was too big, my teeth too crooked, my boobs too small and my hair too frizzy. Then it was like some gender specific genetic code of insecurities was unlocked and they just took me over. Since I had no money or resources or time to *change* any of those offending characteristics, I simply crawled within myself convinced that I would be lucky if any man ever did find me attractive. And while ex#2 certainly never did anything to add to those insecurities, he also never really did anything to alleviate them either. My Sweet Prince has been the one to finally break through and shatter them though there are still teensy voices in my head every once in a blue moon that try to speak. Crazy how the female mind allows those things to happen eh? Ok, so after THAT little background tangent, here are my 5 in no particular order:

  • I love my eyes. They are a cool color. Sometimes pure light brown and sometimes golden brown and sometimes even greenish hazel brown.
  • I love my eyebrows and how they set off my eyes. The are thick and dark, but totally controllable with wax and tweezers.
  • I love my hair. Wonderful dark chocolate brown color. The “frizz” which irritated Ex#1 is really an awesome wave that can sometimes be scrunched into curls and can also easily be controlled with a little spray or gel. It is course too so has lots of body to it so that even during these dry cold winter days when it loses the frizz, it is still never limp. Very little gray too! Maybe 10 strands? Hard for everyone else to see really since I keep it long.
  • I love my legs. They have been the strongest part of me since birth. No clue why, but they do have a lot of muscle tone and oomph to them! I danced with them through high school, walked long distances many times with them and they only failed me this one most recent time with that damn IT band thing at the last 3-day event. Otherwise, they look pretty darn good and have served me very well.
  • I love my long limbs. I first noticed them when I was dancing, but my arms and legs are long and slender and I always thought they looked very graceful when I watched myself dance in the full length dance studio mirrors. Given my leg/ankle strength and long limbs, I probably could have specialized in ballet, but it bored me so and I loved tap dancing much more 🙂
