Something fun for a change!

Check out this site: MusicOutfitters – scroll down a bit to the BillBoard top 100 listing and choose the year you graduated high school. Here are the top 10 from my year, 1983:

1. Every Breath You Take, Police
2. Billie Jean, Michael Jackson
3. Flashdance… What A Feelin, Irene Cara
4. Down Under, Men At Work
5. Beat It, Michael Jackson
6. Total Eclipse Of The Heart, Bonnie Tyler
7. Maneater, Daryl Hall and John Oates
8. Baby Come To Me, Patti Austin and James Ingram
9. Maniac, Michael Sembello
10. Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This), Eurythmics

The premise of this in Cheers&Jeers this morning was how horrid the music was back when we were in high school. And yes, there are many on DailyKos who are older and I must say that the lists from the 70s were certainly puke-inducing. However, I like my year!! The three songs I could do without are #7-9. The rest I still love and it is always fun when I hear them. Now that I think about it, even Maneater makes me tap my feet. One of the radio stations has been doing 80s weekends and I just love it. I had to do a ton of driving on Saturday and those songs kept me going. Anyway, check out your year and let me know what you think. Does your list of songs make you cringe or want to dance?

  1. We have the same year 🙂 Now if you think about it, 24 years after these songs were top of the pops, most of them are still quite well known – even amongst young people. I wonder how many of this year’s number one hits will still be popular 24 years from now …

  2. That car commercial with ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ drives me batty! Though I have to admit, I really liked Flashdance at the time.

I am SOOO glad to hear all things are good with you following your latest (and last) round with the doctors. Yay!!!

  3. GOD I FEEL OLD!! I gave birth to my first child on Octoer 24, 1983. Looking down that list of songs, I remember about half of them, off the top of my head, and those are happy memories. I’d probably feel happy about the other half of the songs, if I heard a bit of them. 1983 was a damn good year!

  4. Ummmmmm, these songs were popular the year before I graduated from … college. I am old. I’ll have to see what was popular in 1980, when I graduated from high school.
