Game 2

Helmets lined up pre-game as the boys get weighed.

The kickoff – gorgeous home field! Only 80 at kickoff! With the ocean breeze coming in.

I cannot photograph the game action – my camera is not quite designed for that unless I get down really close, and I prefer to watch from the upper level so that I have a view of the entire field.  The boy played great again. This time, the offensive line was on right from the start and the Poway team just could not stop the Falcons. We were up 20-0 at the half. Coach Wolfie tells the team at halftime that if they score again then kids can start playing in different positions. There is a Pop Warner rule that no team can win by more than 28 points. Well, the one blight on today’s game was that they did let the other team score (meaning no ice cream today).  Ah well. It also meant they could go for a 5th touchdown. So the final score was 32-6. Sportsboy carried the ball a lot in the 2nd half and again got *this* close to a touchdown. He also made a spectacular open field ankle tackle. A great effort by the entire team. Way to start the season Golden Falcons!

Post game huddle with the coaches – Wolfie addresses his team:

  1. I’m not at all familiar with football…..why do they get weighed? I thought weights were only important in wrestling and boxing!

  2. Pop Warner places kids in divisions by age/weight. In Jr Pee Wee, the kids are 9-10-11 and must weight between 70-105lbs. So there is an official weigh certification before games start and then another before each game to make sure kids don’t go over during the season. When they weigh in pre-game they are allowed about 7lbs for the pads they are wearing. It’s all for safety.
