Exercise challenge for 2008?

While blog surfing just now for a lunch break, I came upon a series of posts by MLL going over her resolutions from 2007 and how she did on them. One of them specifically addresses exercising and a comment there by Robin gave me an idea.

Who wants to participate in some sort of exercising challenge for 2008? I remember years ago on the August moms list we had a group challenge to walk 500 miles in a year. (Shoot, MLL wanted to walk 750 which makes our old challenge seem weak!). We did count all steps, including treadmill work. Many of us bought pedometers to keep track. Personally, I need a challenge/check-in type situation like this to keep myself moving. The 3-Days were great in that regard of course, but since I cannot participate in those due to SportsBoys football ‘career’ conflicting with it now, I need to find something else. My competitive nature kicks in if I have to check in with other people so I thought maybe my blog friends would like to give it a try? I can do it either as a weekly blog post here which everyone would have to comment on with their results, or, if you prefer more privacy, it can be a protected post that only the participants have access to. Or maybe can there be a password protected page? Hmmm..I’ll check that out. In a pinch we can setup an email group and take it totally off the blogs. This wont be about losing weight, just about getting/keeping us moving and in shape (which may have the side effect of weight loss of course). Let me know!

And that, thankfully, solves the issue that I share with LSM. November seriously cannot end fast enough for me!!

  1. I would be game for a challenge to add to my list! I like the idea of weekly or other realtively short-term goals for procrastinators like me. However you all would like to blog it will be fine with me.

Will it count if Alto2 and I eat our morning bagel while we walk?.

  2. There was a walking group I was in. Part of the style was to talk with fists closed and thumbs up. So we called it “one for the donut and one for the bagel.”

If you’re moving — it counts whether or not bagels are involved.

  3. I’m up for it. I always do better when there’s some sort of accountability involved.

You also reminded me that I have photos from the 3-Day walk (from La Jolla) that I haven’t posted yet.

  4. OK, this sounds interesting and motivating to me. I need to do something, although I’m not sure about actual walking, cuz it’s cold out now! Some similiar sort of movement with short-term goals and accountability perhaps? 🙂

We were going to the gym and walking on the treadmills, for about a month. Then, D. broke his toe, and his work project had him working extra at nights. My work kept me late more often than not too, for awhile. I ‘could’ have gone on my own, but I kinda like making dinners and being around the house to help out too. Individual motivation was lacking, I suppose. I’ve still got the month of December, we shall see. I’ve discovered that being gone for almost 11 hours a day, between work hours and the commute, isn’t conducive to a lot of other things… Aside from cooking, doggies, reading, and other domestic things. Maybe I’m just getting old. 😉

But, I may be very interested in what you’re thinking of doing, so please do keep me in mind. That has been what I’ve been trying to focus on, moving! Move, move, move. Sounds good, now to put it to work again, and keep it (me) moving. Smooches!
