Move 2008 – week 1 check in

stick-figure-2.jpg

Here we go!! Check-in time. I was lucky to have my pedaling machine arrive on the 2nd since rain came in this weekend. I love that thing! I tell ya, 30 mins on it doesn’t seem like much and it’s easy to do – I can use it even while here at the PC as well as while watching tv. But once you stop – dang your legs feel the burn! I used it for my arms once yesterday and just about died. IOW – it’s a really good workout! My goal was to average 30mins of aerobic per day for 5 days a week with weights/arms work 3 times a week. Starting strong this week. For the period Jan 1 through Jan 5 I have 15 mins of weighted hula hoop, 135 mins of walking totaling 9.5 miles, 105 mins of pedaling, 10 mins arm pedaling and 15 mins hand weight routine. That’s a total of 240 mins of aerobics for an avg of 48 mins for 5 days + three weight sessions so YAY!

How did everyone else do? I need most of your goals and a little update from the week.

Calvin – goals?

Rambling Mom – goals?

Robin – walk 1000 miles/yr + 20mins yoga/meditation day. She has checked in here with 14.55 miles for the week and 13 mins avg per day.

Shermeister – goals?

VirgoMusic – goals?

LSM – 3 cardio and 3 toning sessions per week. Checked in this week with2 sessions of cardio totaling 70 mins and 3.69 miles on her treadmill.

Suzthorn – goals?

Anyone else want to throw your hat feet in the ring?

  1. Wow! Look at you go. You had a great first week. 🙂

I should add in my strength training. With my emphasis on yoga lately, I don’t always do the weight workouts (mostly because some of the yoga uses my own body weight and I feel like it gives my arms and upper body a good workout), but I did do one weight workout this week.

I’m intrigued about the weighted hula hoop. I have a regular hula hoop, thinking it might be a good ab workout, but didn’t know they make weighted hula hoops.

  2. I have a 5 pound hula hoop and it definitely works the waist! Unfortunately I bought it so long ago that I no longer remember where it came from, but I am sure a google search would turn one up. I think it was $25.

  3. Goals, let’s see, to either *move* or consciously *not move* every day. By moving I mean anything — even taking the dog for a walk around the block. By NOT moving I mean sitting and meditating or doing yoga.

Bad week — only did a walk around the block on Tuesday. Of course, I was sick most of the week and then yesterday caught up at the office (opening day is Tuesday). Crem and I were here for over 12 hours “building” the new computers.

Can I have naps as a goal??

  4. Throwing my hat: I have a goal to lose 10 lbs by June. The dance class I’m taking has a recital in June and all the other students are 1/2 my age, or more.

At my weigh-in this morning, I’ve lost 1.5 lbs. I’m joining my office gym today; otherwise, I have 7 flights of stairs that I climb at work, I RUN to the bus stop (usually in heels), and I have my dance class once a week. At the gym, I’m planning to do more cardio and aerobics classes at least twice a week.

  5. Oh my, has it been week #1 already? Gah… I’ve got several reasons on why it’s rather hard for me to move, but I suppose I’m not alone in that. After reading (but not commenting 😉 ) in your original ‘Move’ post, I’ve given myself til mid January to get it together, and then set some concrete goals.

I like Ramblingmom’s idea… naps as goals… and I haven’t even been able to do that. 😦 But, I’ll post on my blog on why it’s so hard for me (apparently) to find more move time. And I will seriously get into this. Just not quite yet… Damn procrastinator in me. I suppose I should address that too, but why start now? 😉 As an aside, I’m not feeling the need to be anonymous there anymore, so can you add me to your friends list? 🙂 Maybe I’ll get an extra kick in the butt or two or three… 🙂

Seriously, I have been a procrastinator, throughout my life. And seriously, work wears terribly on me. Today was possibly the biggest goof-up (euphemism) that I have been privileged to be a part of at my current workplace. Lovely. Will make for a Merry Monday, I’m sure. But, I digress, and I will rant at my blog, and not hijack this comment here. Even as I may like to think that I’ve so many reasons for being unable to move more and address my daily physical well-being, I know that I really could if I set my mind and spirit to it. Thank you, Bina, for the place to read and write and think of how I treat my body. I do need to join in on this, it just may take me a week or so to really latch on. But I will… and if I don’t, please search me out and give me a good whomp and what-for, k? 🙂

  6. I’m sort of hoping on after seeing Robin. I like the name “Move 2008” and so I’m going to snatch it for my goals for the year as well. I’m starting this week.
