I have GOP debate commentary too!

Political Joke Break: Apparently Mike Huckabee made an analogy in the last GOP debate between the never found WMD’s in Iraq and never found Easter eggs. To continue the analogy, if WMD’s are like Easter eggs, then that means Saddam Hussein was like the Easter bunny, right? Therefore, George Bush killed the Easter Bunny! (hat tip to a caller on the Randi Rhodes show this afternoon). Made me giggle anyhow.

Oh, another observation from that debate. Rudy Guiliani was trying to make a point criticizing Hillary Clinton’s stance(s) on the war. Hey, I make some of those criticisms as well. But, it was how he did it that make me say HUH? He pointed out how she was originally for the war, but that as soon as 6 of 10 American people were against it, now she is against it too. Factual. Not arguing that..but..Rudy dear, if you just acknowledged that the majority of Americans are against the war, then why are you running on a platform of unabashed support for it? Hmmm? And how many primaries have you won? And how many have you lost to Ron Paul, the only anti-war GOP candidate? I’m just wondering.

  1. I don’t want a President that governs by opinion polls, so I do not think that acknowledging an opinion poll is contrary to a stated platofrm position is necessarily a bad thing. As I recall Ron Paul lost primaries to other “pro-war” GOP candidates.

  2. True – sometimes. Perhaps I should have expanded because at another point in the debate they were all piling onto the Democrats for being “out of touch with the American voters”. Fine, but then don’t quote polls that contradict your platform and then attack the other side for being out of touch! Seemed a tad contradictory overall.
AH, but it is just so much fun to make fun of Rudy “9/11” Guliani!

  3. And — while I certainly agree with Calvin that I don’t want a President that governs by opinion polls, I do think that the views of the majority of citizens should be a consideration in decisions that are made. Not the ONLY consideration but it’s one thing sticking to your guns — it’s another thing when all the lemmings run the other way instead of going over the cliff and you just go jumping off the cliff.
