First…Gobama!! Another sweep! Only this time it was McCain on the other side also sweeping what the media kept calling the Beltway States. Obama now leads no matter how you slice it, but, I know the Dems will go on quite a bit longer.
OK, enough seriousness! On to the fun stuff. This is from my notes that I jotted down as I watched tonight. I am not noting anything but the ones who impressed me. Ones who I believe will make it to the top 24 which they will announce tomorrow night. A note on the new format – love it! They allowed instruments and gave people second chances if the first audition did not wow them. Oh, and nice Simon? He’s gone! He was dropping his bombs of truth all over. Love it.
Aussie Mike who auditioned in San Diego is still high on my radar of the guys. He sang freaking Bohemian Rhapsody! That takes some serious … well…you know..stones! I think he did a great job and I just love the hint of a rasp in his voice.
Saisha from Miami who lost her voice the 1st day in Hollywood and then slid through on her 2nd chance then stopped talking entirely to save herself for the final audition. What a come back! She sounded fabulous and showed some guts herself.
David the 16 year old? His name is David right? Shoot, forgot to write it down. Another San Diego auditioner who performs as if he is 26. Very cute, interprets songs so well for one so young and has a very good voice. He will surely get the teenage girl vote!!
Carly (Irish tattoo girl from San Diego) – oh man, I loved her in her first audition and I still love her. She’s different and sweet and has a powerful voice.
*** We take a quick break to ask – how can people forget the freaking words to their songs??? Oh, and thank you Paula for sending annoying beauty queen contestant home!!!***
Back to the good ones.
Can I just say that no matter what happens to Josiah, the kid who was living in his car, that I love him? Cute as a button, lovely personality and a love the way he sings. Talk about originality! Though I wish he would stop crying 😉
The rock n roll nurse is another one I think should go through. Yes, she is a throwback to Janis Joplin, but with a joyful spin. And a rockin’ kick ass voice!
David Menendez who looks like..well..a wisp of thing, but his rendition of “Love the One You’re With” with a bluesy/R&B undertone was such an original arrangement. Watch that one.
Phillygal! Ok, my kossack friends will get a kick out of that nickname. But I am referring to the very first gal who sang tonight. She played the keyboards and as Simon said, came off quite a bit like Carly Simon or Carol King and was just lovely. I am quite sure she will make it through.
*** Did anyone else notice the blue tongues? Were they giving out blue colored candies or something backstage??***
Last observation – must there be one corny, goofy, cute, sweet, entertaining guy who can just sort of sing every year? You know, a Sanjaya? Well, this year it is curly haired Kyle for sure!!!!
Wednesday night they reveal the top 24. 12 guys, 12 girls. The contestants will do the long walk of nervousness to face the judges and face the music. Probably the most nerve wracking of the nights IMHO.
I noticed the blue tongues and was wondering if you’d mention it (or if it was some weird thing going on with my television which seemed unlikely since it was only the tongues that were blue). You’d think the folks in television would think of things like that before they give ’em blue lozenges or candies or whatever it was.
Or maybe it’s a new trend? I’m old, what do I know? lol!
I wish Josiah would stop crying, too. It’s not going to help him in the long run, if he does make it through. He’s very talented, but doesn’t seem to be able to do anything other than his own stuff. Perhaps some company will pick him up based on that. I’m not sure AI is made for originals when you come right down to it.
