Heh – watching the DVR of Wednesday night’s American Idol and the first thing Ryan mentions is the cold/flu season hitting the contestants. I’m watching it Thursday morning at 10..why? Because the cold has hit ME! SportsBoy had a mild cold all last week and I felt the scratchy throat thing Tuesday morning and hoped it would be as mild as his was. But toward the end of the pop warner meeting last night my throat started to *hurt*. This morning it still hurts and I really did not sleep well at all so I decided to stay home and work from here and pamper myself with tea and vitamins and nap as needed. Hence, my earlier than planned on viewing of the show! The girls have the same 60s theme as the guys.
Kristy Lee Cook – Amazing Grace girl – as in, that is the only song she’s sang well so far IMHO 😉 Smart girl to start off with something upbeat (Rescue Me). She sounds ok, looks very cute and is a good performer. Hey, a nice step up from Amazing Grace! I was not terribly impressed with her in early rounds, but she’s earned my respect with this performance. Apparently she has bronchitis which has to be tough. Shoot, I sit here with my soar throat and would not want to sing and dance!! Still, her voice is *nice* but not powerful and not enough for this song. I don’t have a strong desire to see her again so I would not have voted.
Joanne Borgella – Saw very little of her in the early rounds. Better than Kristy from the start. Still…her voice is not as big as I would think. Nervy sounding. Again, I would not necessarily need to see her perform again. Would not have voted.
Ok, I am taking a break to comment on the judges – Simon is SO RIGHT! Take it NOW. This is the point when you prove that you are a STAR. Spot on.
Alaina Whitaker – another one I don’t remember seeing even once in the first rounds. Ok, she bugs me at the beginning with all those forced mmms and ooohs at the front of every note. Hate that. Upbeat part is much better, but she’s screaming isn’t she? Oooh, yes she is to my ears!! She can belt it, but I am still not convinced. Good energy though. Nice smile. Heh, the judges are totally loving her! She was screaming people, that was not in control!! Ah well. Guess that’s why I am an accountant, not a record producer 😉
Amanda Overmeyer – loved her from the start. Not just because she is a rocker chick, but because she is so even keel and seems warm and genuine. Her only drawback is going to be – can she do anything other than rock? Well, she is starting out rocking out. Shoot. The music is overpowering her voice. She is a performer though! So much soul to her. Even though I am not sure it was the best vocal, I *want* to see her again so I would have voted.
Amy Davis – again, I have to say that I don’t remember her at all. Oh, don’t do a slow song!! Where the Boys Are. Not a good choice IMHO. Ooh, and on the tv anyway, she sounds flat. Very little life in her. Nope, no need to see her again.
Brooke White who I loved in the early rounds. They showed her a lot and she had a lot of sparkle and originality. She is so darn cute! Even with the two caterpillars on her eyelashes..what? That’s makeup? Oh. Ok, nevermind she still looks and sounds quite good to me. I just love her personality! And her voice is a lot more than you think it would be given how wispy she is. I would have voted for her.
*Half way through and I think the boys were better last night at this point*
Alexandrea Lushington – What’s with the one dangly earring? Yeah, I am showing my lack of current style sense, I get it, but..odd! She hit one note in that song that was really good! Tons of energy, I like the tone to her voice and her performance style a lot. I would have voted for her.
Kady Malloy – Another slow song, but a better one I think. Groovy Kind of Love. Hmm..I’m not impressed! Is it because I am home with a sore throat? Am I just not in the mood to watch this? I would NOT have voted for her!!
Asia’h Epperson- oh I remember her original audition! Bawled my eyes out for sure because of losing her dad just before. On top of that I know this girl can sing! Oh she’s doing Janis!! Brave girl. But, she has the pipes and the soul for it. Oh yes, I am enjoying her very much. Would have had my vote. Oh, and the girl has some guns!
Ramiele Maluby – Little girl with the big voice. Can somebody please brush that hair off her eye? Kthx. Oh, I wonder if she has a cold too. Some of those notes are raspy. I love this song – You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me. She sang it well, in control. She could have belted it, but kept it understated. Great range. I would have voted for her – love her.
Syesha Mercado – Another big voice from the girl who lost her voice in Hollywood. Big spirit to go with that voice. Big SOUL to go with that voice. Oh yes, great performance. Love her.
Carly Smithson – the girl swirled in controversy. Formerly Carly Hennesey, irish born, previously had a 2+ million dollar record deal with A&M (when Randy Jackson was an exec there) which *bombed*. Rumors are rampant that American Idol has “plants” in this season to ensure a good result. This is season 7 and really the only two winners who have paid off are Kelly from Season 1 and Carrie from Season 3. Sure, other non-winners have done well but let’s be real – those performers (Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry) are not making money FOR American Idol. So from a purely corportae mercenary standpoint, they need a winner again. I heard similar rumors of Aussie Michael and adorable phenom David being ‘plants’. Ok, in her background piece she addresses the record deal – done when she was 15 and blames the implosion of the record company on the failure. 15! That was 9 years ago. Ok everyone, back off her! Her name change is due to marriage and she’s running a freaking tattoo parlor here in San Diego. If she is a plant, then THANK YOU! This gal is the best. Gawd, I love her voice. Look at her cough afterwards – didn’t matter – she sang her ass off. HOT!
Geez, I think 7 gals should go home tonight!! Ok, for sure, Kady and Amy need to go. Now off to read Greeblemonkey’s take!
