Sunday night TV

I know, other than American Idol I am not much of a tv watcher, right? So why am I writing about it? Because there is something just perfect about vegging out in front of the TV on Sunday night. End of the week. Weekend probably kicked your butt even if it amounted to tons of fun activities. Brain is completely done and needs to be somehow cleared out so you can focus on the new week starting in just a few hours. I’ve found that Sunday evenings are my best workouts first of all. I always think of it as Day 1 of exercise week so I feel inspired to kick it off right. Around 7:00pm it starts and the tv is tuned to ABC and there it stays. First it’s the tried and true and often quite repetitive Americas Funniest Home Videos. I know I know. How many times can you watch a 3 year old hit grandpa in the crotch with a stick? Clearly, thousands. And counting. Because I still laugh every single time. Videos of people scaring each other in creative ways? Laughter every time. Babies falling asleep in their food? Cats falling off the tv? Dogs getting their heads stuck in pumpkins? Giggles. It’s utter and complete silliness but it wipes everything from the week away and I laugh out loud at least ten times per show.

Then The Big Weep begins. Back to back. Extreme Home Makeover and now Oprah’s Big Give. Break out the tissues because I defy you not to shed a tear during each show. If the past week has been ok for you, maybe just a sniffle and eye dabble. But if you’ve had a hum dinger of a week? Stress? Drama? Stuff you dealt with while keeping a stiff upper lip? Well, prepare for that lip to falter because this will unleash all that pent up emotion. And it will feel *good* to cry at these shows. Release the week past and be ready to focus on the one coming up. Yes, the situations are contrived and set up to tug on your heart to the max. Still, you cannot help but respond. Something will happen to touch your heart. Both shows are about helping people who really need it and just watching it makes you feel inspired to be generous and giving.

Then it is back to some good all slosh in the mud fun. Newlyweds. A ‘reality tv’ contest with newly married couples competing for close to 500k in prize money. It is funny and has that Survivor kind of stab you in the back game playing that gets you going. Total light hearted fun.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, but mostly, you will not have used a single brain cell for four hours!! Can’t think of a better way to get refreshed for another action packed week.
