Community Service Day

Finally! A Saturday without a conflict when we could attend a Miracle League Game! Of course, even without Little League or travel baseball, I have been out all day! First the gas station, then Starbucks, the nails appointment, then finally on to the ML game. Sportsboy was buddy for a girl in a wheelchair – here they are pulling into third during their first turn at bat:

Miracle League Game 1

Of course it was unseasonably warm today – last weekend we were freezing watching him play, and this weekend it was in the 90s on the coast!! He did great though and it looked like his player had fun. Her mom complimented SB on how he zipped her around – he had asked her if it was OK to go fast and the mom said “oh yeah, she loves it.” He is looking forward to participating again next weekend when , for once, the LL game will be over before the ML game starts.

From there we had lunch then visited MM at work to order some milk from him, then on to the pop warner storage shed for more work. It was time to inventory the helmets returned. Sounds simple, right? Well, guess what – not so much!! First it was the dang parents who did NOT follow instructions. During the season we puy 3 decals on the helmets – two with the league logo and one with the player’s number. The parents were supposed to REMOVE those decals before returning the helmets. I kid you not that at least HALF did not do that. They also did not take off the chin strap or even the icky used mouth pieces!!! One of SB’s teammates was there with his dad so we put the two boys to work removing decals. They actually did a pretty good job of it for about an hour or so. Meanwhile, I counted and categorized the helmets by size. Or so I thought. We did it TWICE and still we could not get the broken down list to tie out to the total!!! I was so irritated with myself. The only thing I could think is that I was missing and entire side of a rack, but I did it twice. Sheesh! Guess I could blame the heat 🙂
