American Idol Top 7

Mariah Carey night – this can be truly awful or suprising….

David Archuletta – When You Believe – He’s wearing leather pants??? I don’t care. He truly can sing the flipping phone book and be amazing. He hit some high notes that..well…he had no business hitting. He’s 17??? No damn way. How does he get so much emotion from that young life? Ok, I think he is an argument for re-incarnation because that is one of the oldest souls on the planet and every single lifetime comes out when he sings.

Carly Smithson – Without You – First of all, she finally wore sleeves!!! That dress is great on her and really compliments her blue eyes with her dark hair. I think she is a really beautiful girl. For me the beginning of the song was a little rough. Almost too soft – Carly is not soft!! But when she went into the power….much better. However, I agree with the judges that I don’t feel she has every truly *relaxed* in a song. I wonder if that early failure with a record contract when she was young has made her tentative?

Syesha Mercado – Vanishing – Oh, hello gold lame! – That was nice, but I also kind of tuned out during it. It was good – just not WOW, you know?

Brooke White – Hero – While I really liked her vocals because she extended her range, both upper and lower, and I thought that was nice, still there were some rough moments. The piano actually sounded flat! I do love that she puts herself out there every single week to do a unique ‘Brooke’ spin on each song. But overall the performance was quite the roller coaster. And the judges did freaking hamburger analogies??? Ok, it’s not just Paula who is on something tonight!!!

Kristy Lee (please go home) – Forever – More gold? What is with these girls?? As much as I cannot stand this girl for no real reason other than I don’t like blonde country singers (!!), I give her credit for being the shrewdest overall in her song selection. As far as Mariah songs go , I doubt anyone knew it, which is prefect because it means we are not hearing Mariah in our heads as she sings. So, she actually soungs pretty damn good for her, AND I can tell she is learning how to perform a little better every week.

David Cook- Always Be My Baby – Oh hello! Remember what I said about Michael Johns leaving seriously reducing the hawtness of this show? Never mind. David just stepped it UP. That was HOT HOT HOT! He took Mariah and made it haunting and soulful and stunning and heavenly. A guy just sang Mariah better than Mariah!

**backstory on why I think he was crying after that..and why I am now** The town he is from raised enough money for his older brother to be there in the audience tonight. His brother is battling brain cancer and not doing well at all. They not only had to fly HIM out, but also fly out medical staff to care for him and arrange for emergency care in LA in case of problems. At this point in the show, they have not mentioned it, but they did just do a cut away shot to him as David had tears going down his face and well, um..TISSUES!! I need TISSUES!! BRB

Jason Castro – I Don’t Wanna Cry – Jason stuck with what he knows and takes the song down and softens it up. I really liked it. The guys did a lot better than one would think. They each did a great job of spinning the songs to be their own.  Which only makes me pine away for Michael Johns even more!!!

Overall this show was indeed surprisingly good!! Bottom three? Hmmm..Kristy of course (last week was some freaky anomaly), Syesha and Brooke with Syesha? going…you know who I *want to go but…I feel as if I keep bringing her luck by predicting her demise so, Syesha it is!

  1. Take a gander at Ken Levine’s opinions of last night’s Mariah-fest . I missed the whole thing b/c WT was farting around with a project. I hate, Hate, HATE school projects.

  2. Hey… I had to come back and comment on this. I read an idol review of the Mariah Carey night, and this made me curious. I don’t watch the show much, but I like Mariah Carey’s songs (and I’ve begun to forgive her for Glitter). I agree with you about Jason Castro… he’s a heart throb. He is. Those eyes, and that voice, he could be amazing. He’s kinda got the hippy vibe goin with the dreds, and that might turn people off, but I think he’s got more *it* than David Cook, who…everytime I hear him, all I can think is ‘Michael Bolton’.
