American Idol – The Finals – David vs David

Let’s get ready to Rummmmmmmmble!!! (ok, had to do that since they had the wrestling announcer guy on to do the introductions)

So this is it. For the first time since Season 2, I really don’t care who wins!! I could argue cases for both of them. Knowing the body of work from both of these singers, I seriously doubt either one will falter badly. The difference between season 2 with Clay/Reuben is that THIS year’s winner will NOT fade away and take a back seat to the runner up. Both of these David’s will be heard from for a very long time.

David Cook with a song chosen by Clive Davis – I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For – Oh, excellent song choice. U2. Love it. His ending note was fabulous. He didn’t do *too* much with it, but he didn’t need to, did he? He was singing a song so classic that you cannot twist it up. Still, he was David C! It was wonderful and a great start to the night.

David Archuletta also with a song chosen by Clive – Don’t Let The Sun Go Down on Me – Also a perfect song for this guy. Love how he starts out sitting on the stairs. Oh wow. Well now. He won round 1!!! Dayum that was fantastic. For a kid who seems like he will fall apart when he is not singing, that kid can PERFORM. He is so smooth, so stunning when he sings. Is he really just 17???

David Cook – Dream Big – DC comfortable with his guitar. Always in his element when he can rock out. Vocally one of his best. Another fabulous final note.

David Archuletta – Ack – I missed the song title and I don’t know it. Well, it’s typically DA sappy and soaring and inspirational. Archie in HIS element. EH, not as good as the first one. Not that it is bad of course!! Oh no, it is still lovely. Just not as powerful.

David Cook – The World I Know by Collective Soul – The sensitive side of DC. Aw man, he is even crying at the end. Here’s the thing. He didn’t hit it out of the park. And DA is about to sing HIS signature song from the season. Simon questioned why he did not redo one of his best such as Billy Jean or Hello. DC said he wanted to keep progressing and show new things. We’ll see. Doesn’t matter. Win or lose, he is going to be a star.

David Archuletta – Redoing Imagine, probably a very good bet – Interesting. Not as magical the second time around. Awesome of course.

IMHO Archuletta won the night. Which is the best way it could work out. Cook will be great without AI’s help. Archuletta NEEDS the American Idol group to mold and package him. He is too young and raw to go out on his own. Both of these guys will be mega stars. Cook will be best (like Daughtry) without the yolk of American Idol marketers telling him what to sing. Archuletta will thrive under that same tutelage.

Great finale though. The two best singers ended up in this place as they should have.

  1. Once again, I agree with you completely. (i’m available for hire if you need someone to back you up with, ‘yes, christina, you’re right. i totally agree, ‘ all day. it could do amazing things for your self-esteem. 😉 ) Archuleta needs someone to hold his hand for a while. (were they still not allowing his dad to help him out this week?) Cook is ready to do his own thing.

While I prefer David Cook over little, lip-licking, “I really like the message of this song” David A., he (D.C.) has a better shot going out on his own.

I still miss Michael Johns, though. ::meow::
