Even if you are not into politics, this applies to you dear reader. All you need to qualify for this survey is an email account which I know you all have so don’t be silent/shy! I am just really curious so I am asking this all around the internet this week:
- Have you received any political chain emails?
- If so, how many? (go ahead and count repeats, if a different person sent you the same email, count it again)
- How many of those received were targeting Obama?
- McCain?
- Clinton?
- Others?
- Have your forwarded any of those emails yourself?
That’s it! Please answer in the comments. I’m even allowing anonymous commenting if you are really really shy, but I am also doing this as part of a larger discussion with SportsBoy, so please help a mama bear out. Thanks π
You just made me feel like the girl who finds out she wasn’t invited to the party when she hears everybody talking about it. I haven’t received ANY chain political emails. All I ever get is the touchy feely “what a great friend you are now pass it on” kind of chain mail. I did get a really cool one a few months ago about the indoor ski resort that the Arabs have built in the middle of the freaking-hot desert (imagine THAT electric bill!) with *ahem* our money though. Great pictures.
I hope that helps. Somehow.

I receive Obama-related chain mail from one of my nieces occasionally. I don’t send politically-related OR touchy-feely mail…I don’t do chain mail.

I get a couple pieces of Kucinich related chain mail every month. I don’t remember getting any other political chain mail. I never forward chain mail.

Normally I get a lot of political chain emails targeted against Obama. My dad sends them. But he’s been in the hospital so I haven’t received any this week.
My husband and I were discussing how there always seem to be more of those things from the right than from the left. His theory is that Democrats are too busy discussing what’s important to be sitting around trying to invent/make up (lie!) a mountain out of one little grain of sand.
I do still get email from Hillary Clinton and her camp. Does that count? π

Ooops…meant to add: I don’t forward chain emails. Ever. I will, however, respond if it’s a pack of lies (political or otherwise). The forwarding of that sort of thing is a pet peeve of mine and I tend to rant when I respond (usually a “reply all” so I can be sure everyone gets the message…lol!).

Subject: Tax Changes — Very Important — Please Read
FYI. Thought this might be of interest to all whose spending dollars are already stretched cellophane-thin.
If you want CHANGE, this will do it. Pass this one to your voting friends – of all political parties.
CAPITAL GAINS TAX
MCCAIN
Current 0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples)
McCain does not propose any change in income tax on existing home sales
OBAMA
28% on profit from ALL home sales
How does this affect you?
If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% taxes on.your profit (Capital Gain)
If you are planning to retire and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community
28% of the money you make (CAPITAL GAIN) from your home will go to taxes.
This proposal will adversely affect retiring couples who are counting on the income (CAPITAL GAIN that is currently exempt from income tax) from their home as part of their retirement income.
DIVIDEND TAX
MCCAIN
15% (no change)
OBAMA
39.6%
How will this affect you?
If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds,
college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays
or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money
earned on taxes if Obama become president.
The experts predict that ‘higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains
would crash the stock market yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.
INCOME TAX
MCCAIN (no changes)
Single making 30K – tax $4,500
Single making 50K – tax $12,500
Single making 75K – tax $18,750
Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K – tax $18,750
Married making 125K – tax $31,250
OBAMA
Reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts ? ( CLINTON TAX INCREASES WOULD BE REINSTATED)
Single making 30K – tax $8,400
Single making 50K – tax $14,000
Single making 75K – tax $23,250
Married making 60K – tax $16,800
Married making 75K – tax $21,000
Married making 125K – tax $38,750
Under Obama your taxes will more than double!
How does this affect you?
No explanation needed. This is pretty straightforward.
INHERITANCE TAX
MCCAIN 0%
(No change, Bush repealed this tax)
OBAMA
Restore the inheritance tax
How does this affect you?
This is a tax on things that have already been taxed!
Many families have lost businesses,
farms, ranches, and homes that have been in their families
for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax.
Those willing their assets to loved ones will not only lose them to these taxes.
NEW TAXES BEING PROPOSED BY OBAMA
* New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet
* New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren’t high enough already)
* New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity)
* New taxes on retirement accounts and last but not least….
* New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same level of medical care as other third-world countries!!!
Don’t forget:
ACCORDING TO NANCY PELOSI we also need to increase Social Security payroll deductions FICA so illegals dont have to pay but can take it back home with them and retire in luxury.
Yes, VOTE IN 2008! Itβs important!
Here is the church email if you would like to communicate with them about this.

I haven’t received any that I can remember. I never forward chain emails and have tried to educate my kids about it.
Now that you mention it, I remember many months ago that Aaron received one chain email about Obama being Muslim and that he would be sworn in on the Koran if elected. I just asked Aaron and he said he has received none other. When he received that one, we went to http://www.snopes.com and looked up that particular rumor, discussed it, talked about rumors, email, chains, etc.

I’ve received a few, maybe 2 or 3 this election cycle — I have conservative relatives who will occasionally forward the lie-packed wingnut spam. I didn’t reply or forward them, but I’ve promised myself that in the future I will hit ‘reply to all’ and debunk the B.S.
And then I’ll probably be disowned, but at least I’ll have my dignity! π
I got the one about taxes, and my mother-in-law got the one about how drilling in ANWR would be superkewl. She gets a lot of them, and she forwards them to McDoc so he can tell here that they’re all horse-hockey.
I also got one from a Dem friend that was pretty funny — a made-up letter from Queen Elizabeth saying that England was revoking our independence because we’ve shown ourselves to be incompetent at managing our affairs. π

I’ve received at LEAST 5 or 6, could be a lot more. All ridiculous smears against Obama. I got the one Lilymae posted above, the one about Obama enslaving whites based on his churches teachings, all kinds of craziness. NEVER forward them or respond, I’ve found responding to be pointless and have a strict no politics rule with the conservative members of my family (even if they udon’t know it)

No, thankfully I don’t get any of the political chain emails. I do get chain emails from my mom about locking my car doors, being “safe”, sending love and flowers and such things. If the email header can’t be read on one screen, it’s automatically deleted. π Though every now and then she sends me one with cute pootie and puppy pics. π

I’ve never rec’d political chain mails. Guess my junk mail filter catches any if they come. But even when I look at what’s gone into junk, I’ve never seen any political chain stuff.
I do get political emails, from MoveOn or other orgs I belong to. IF I ever receive a political junk chain mail, I probably wouldn’t even open it (I’m very careful of viruses and trojans) and I would NEVER forward it.
