They knew him when

Last night was the Jr High open house. I was able to get there early and while I was wandering around, I spied a familiar face. The lady who owns the pre-school that SportsBoy attended from the time he was 2 until he started kindergarten. She was there because her grandson is in the 8th grade at the same school. We hugged and then reminisced about that little character up there. See that child safety latch on that cabinet? Worthless as you can see. When I took him to visit the pre school the first time, I pointed out places in the room and said “He will climb up there, there and there.” They didn’t believe me. They learned πŸ™‚ However, SB even surprised me later on. He is now infamous at the school because they had to change the outside fence thanks to his ability to scamper up onto it! It is now officially named “SportsBoys fence” 10 years later new parents hear the story. When Miss Sandy heard that he is playing football, she just laughs and said “well, he sure was developing those athletic skills early on so I am not surprised!”

While we were chatting, another set of former pre school parents walked up to great Miss Sandy. Then another mom came up. And I stood there and thought that this was so cool! I mean, we live in a pretty big city. In a pretty big suburb of it really. And yet, there are many aspects of it that do feel like a small town. The community thread is strong and really, that is why I volunteer so much, so that I can keep us connected. Especially now as he moves on into bigger schools with a larger pool of peers. It’s OK, because I feel like we know them.
