Summer heat

Here is the first purple dahlia bloom. When it was a bud I thought it would be the deep purple variety but it bloomed looking more like the lavender. Another this color is blooming so I think I still have another color to discover. They all have buds on them so it is just a matter of time. Clearly they are loving the early summer heat we are having. June was much hotter than normal on the coast. Normally June gloom keeps the low clouds and fog over the coastal areas with temps in the high 60s or low 70s. Not this year. It’s been high 70s, low 80s with already a couple of days at 90! This is more like August for us.

Speaking of heat – the Padres are HOT! I went Wed and Fri nights – open toe shoes and t-shirt or even sleeveless shirts were all that was needed, plus the team won! Piazza hit another of his monster home runs on Wednesday. I am going again Sunday for the final day game in awhile. I expect to be HOT. My seats are in the sun the whole time. Whee. I spent today at the Del Mar Fair which was also HOT (noticing a theme here?) I love going by myself because I can wander around all the vendor exhibits without anyone complaining πŸ™‚ I bought a b-day gift for DS2 and went to see Wyland and his travelling exhibit. He painted another whaling wall on a new building at the fairgrounds. Two grey whales, one breaching at sunset. It is stunning as usual.

Now I have a consumer question for my readers – most likely for the ladies only (one hopes!!) After applying spf 45 (Neutrogena) my manicured fingernails are covered with a sticky goo that will NOT go away!! It is driving me nuts. I’ve washed my hands, scrubbed the nails, rubbed a makeup remover cloth over them with no luck. They are still sticky to the touch. Of course I just had my nails done this morning so I am not pleased at having to use something that will undo the fresh nail polish. What will clean this off?? Is there a sunscreen that will not cause this? It is gross! Posted by Picasa

  1. Oh yes….there is a chemical in both sunscreen lotions, sprays and come regular lotions (Eucerin anti-itch, fyi) that will take off the top layer of a manicure. I learned the hard way!!!
