I have often been teased for being always on top of things. A few people gave me a hard time for already having so much holiday prep done right after Thanksgiving. I realized just now that I should not be giving a false impression of myself. I am by no means on top of life and keeping up with everything! Despite the fact that my current lifestyle allows me many solitary days when I could “get things done” I don’t. So here is what I did today. I was not utterly lazy, nor did I totally handle everything. Today I have the “excuse” of fighting off a cold, which is valid, but there are many days like today when I am perfectly healthy and still follow todays pattern.
- Up at 7:00 to see if there were games.
- Read emails and make follow up phone calls to make sure everyone knows
- Make tea – throat still hurts
- Get paper and read while sipping tea
- Turn on ESPN football pregame show
- Make eggs and toast and eat while watching TV
- Start cleaning kitchen. Counters, stove, stainless steal treaments.
- Change channel to 10:00 football game
- Pick up random crap and put away/throw away
- Start a load of laundry
- Clean floors
- Lay down on sofa and doze off while watching football
- Phone call
- Doze off again
- Phone again
- Think about what I should be doing such as addressing and signing cards to local friends, wrap gifts, clean upstairs, drop off dry cleaning that is in back seat of car, make grocery list, GO to the grocery and get it over with!
- Address three envelopes (never take out address book for the rest or sign any actual cards)
- Dust downstairs
- Make lunch (spaghettios) and drink vitamin C drink and airborne while watching 1:00 football game
- Intermittently check email and putter around the internet.
- Doze off again
- Phone call again!
- Receive silent auction item from a team rep. Chat for a second. Realize that while I am in sweat pants, I never changed out of the tshirt I wore to bed and I have no bra on. At least hair is brushed!
- Intently watch second half of Charger game as it got kind of close and then LT had the touchdown record to break.
- Two phone calls as the game ends. While catching up with the second one, clean one upstairs toilet and wrap two presents.
- Switch laundry from the morning, start 2nd load
- Watch post game show and then pre-game for the night matchup
- Make a small pot of rice to go with the leftover chili from the night before for dinner
- Fold 1st load of laundry. Leave folded clothes in basket on the chair.
- Read Nov issue of Oprah while keeping an eye on the evening football game.
- Do NOTHING ELSE!!
I could have done so much more – but no. This is my typical unscheduled day. An ongoing battle with getting things done and procrastination/laziness. Tomorrow I will have to squeeze in the grocery run between work and getting A from Swedish class. I could have made my Monday less hectic, but I couldn’t be bothered to get dressed today! Sigh…Of course, for some reason I was compelled to double up in here! I confuse myself I tell ya.
Sometimes, you need a little downtime. I find I get less done on days, like today, when I have hours ahead of me. Next thing I know it will be time to pick up the kids and think about the dinner I’ll have to cook but no time to eat.
