He likes it!

No, check that – he LOVES it! After seven (seven?!!) years with my SweetPrince, the hardest thing for me is buy him a gift. First of all, he’s a guy. IF there is anything they really want/need they buy it for themselves OR it is too darned expensive for me to get. The latter is often the case. Which relates to problem #2 which is that he grew up very materialistically spoiled by his family. The gifts they exchange every year boggle my mind. Shoot, I am an only child and I know that my parents never spent as much on my for Christmas + birthday in one year that they will spend for just one of those events. But, it’s because they can and they love to show their love with generosity at gift giving times. I still remember SP calling me and crying on the phone over a truly lovely gift that his brother gave him along with a very touching note. So, it’s not just about he money spent as they really do try to make each other happy and show appreciation for each other. Anyway…all this pretty much puts me at a huge deficit!!! Mostly he has been happy over the years with a nice meal and a couple of years I did have it in my budget to get him something good, but it’s been a couple of years since the last time. This year I started bugging him early on – just TELL me something for heavens sake! Think of something you REALLY want that you just haven’t taken the time to buy for yourself or didn’t want to spend the money. I gave him my $$ limit – tacky I know, but necessary for me 😉 Whaddya know – he figured it out AND even found the best deal on what he wanted. Here is his new toy. It arrived today and there was no use waiting since he knew it was on it’s way. He put in his car and took off…and called me 5 minutes later declaring his LOVE for his gift. (notice I didn’t say he declared his love for me. Ahem) Ah, yes! Score!

Oh yeah, and I told SportsBoy today that Santa could not bring him a wii (yes, he really is still into this). I reminded him that parents do always have to approve what Santa can bring since, you know, kids in apartments really shouldn’t be asking for Great Dane puppies and so on. That works in his brain and when I told him that a Wii or a PS3 really requires a whole new tv as well which I was not prepared for him to have just yet, he understood. I told him if he gives me until the summer I can figure something out by then for the new gaming system. Phew! So he is thinking of alternative items to request from Santa. As he is pondering that he asked me if I had bought him a gift yet and I said yes (the mp3 player) but no, it was not in the house yet (true) so don’t go looking for it! So then he asks me “Hey, I can ask Santa for an iPod nano because I’ve wanted an mp3 player for awhile!” Uhhhhhhhhhh….dance dance…”well, no SB, I am not sure about that. I would then have to subscribe to some sort of music downloading service and that’s kinda like the gaming system where mom would have to buy extra stuff to make things work.” Jeebus! At least I know he will LOVE what I got for him too. Finally he is focusing on a list of new games from Santa. Man, this is tough!
